09' prerunner rear spring TSB

I've noticed that my truck bottomed out with a quad in the back when i went over dips. I knew that many people on here have gotten the Rear Spring Harsh Ride TSB done and it gave them more load capacity and gave them lift in the back. i figured that this would be a good solution because i could get the tsb done with about 1in? lift and then by all 4 bilsteins and set them at 1.75 in the front. So i went into the dealership today and they checked to see if my prerunner DCLB was applicable. When they were done the guy says that the TSB wont help the load carrying capacity of my truck and that it would even make it worse because the TSB springs are weaker. From what ive heard on here i knew otherwise so i went to talk to the service manager. This guy also said that the TSB would not help my truck and that the only option for increased load capacity would be an aftermarket option. After arguing with this guy for while he said he would call Toyota tomorrow and call me to see if they could do it. He also asked if i wanted to leave my truck which made me furious since they wouldnt be able to do anything with it anyways.

Thats BS. The TSB springs should be stronger since there are 4 springs now. I might not help you load capacity, but it will make it so that you 4 wheeler doesn't bottom out the truck.

 

Won't increase the load capacity, but will get the Tacoma to carry the load capacity that it is already suppose to carry, which stock it is not able to do. You should be able to carry a quad without having issues which is excatly what the tsb is suppose to address.

 

ya ecrepeau I dont really want to increase the load capacity just be able to carry my quad in the back without having the back end sag so far.

 

how much does your quad weigh? these are 1/4 ton trucks. maybe try putting it on a trailer and towing it!

 

It weighs like 700 pounds(i need to double check this) its rated for that much isnt it? Plus hooking up the trailer is a PIA and its 16' long. If the bed is rated to carry that much, i expect it to do so.

 

He should not have to invest in a trailer. The truck bed is suppose to handle this load with no problems. The load capacity on a double cab tacoma is 1300 something pounds. I think 1350 but can't excatly remember, but I know for sure it is slightly over 1300 pounds. So with a 700 pound quad in the bed he should still be able to weigh 200 pounds himself and bring along two 200 pound buddies before you are at what the truck is rated for payload capacity.

Tell your dealer that you are having the exact issue that the tsb was put out to address. If they give you a hard time ask to speak to both the service manager and the sales manager. Explain to the sales manager why you will be going to a different dealership and maybe not even a Toyota dealership for your next vehicle. This is a case to where a salesman can be your best friend especially since Toyota's rep is currently in the trash.

The dealer has no leg to stand on to not do this unless your vehicle is over the 3/36,000 warranty. Some dealers are a pain on this and some are good. Either way just keep pushing until they break. Also, once you finally get them to do it make sure they do it right. My dealer screwed this up and did the job, but used the wrong part numbers. Ordered all new old part numbers so when they were done all they did was put brand new of the bad parts on. I have seen others have this same problem with the dealer. Mine had to go back for them to do the job all over again with the correct part numbers.

If you are non-trd they are suppose to replace all 4 shocks with blue and yellow bilsteins and the rear leafs go from a 3 pack to a 4 pack.

 

Thanks ecrepeau. I plan to highlight the parts of the tsb which i pretty much described and maybe find some more info to drop off to the service manager today. Hopefully itll add to my case.
