    If you want steps, go for it.
    Something big enough to damage body will likely be enough to bend the little brackets on the steps and hit the body anyway.

    Thanks for the responses everyone! I'm still fairly new to a lot of this.

    I feel like cost is my biggest resistance to sliders , aren't they typically a lot more expensive? Not to mention I don't have any welding experience, so I'd have to pay someone to install them, unless they make bolt on.

    They do make bolt on sliders. But if bolt on isn't a good idea for sliders why would any one want them??

    I think the big difference is bolting to the frame vs. the body.

    What is there to patent in these? The stars? These guys live in a cave and not realize that aftermarket steps and sliders have been around for a few minutes already?

    Bolt to the body is sketchy as others have already mentioned. Bolt on steps and sliders that attach to the frame makes allot more sense. As to sliders, if you have to have a brand name check for group buys and sales and prepare to play the shipping game. Another alternative is to ask around for reputable fab shops or interested welders in your area - probably two or three guys in this thread that could fit that bill - that can make them for you locally. Tends to be less expensive and you are supporting a local shop or enthusiast and keeping the money in your community. Seriously consider skipping powder coat and just using a rattle can self etching primer and rattle can semi gloss top coat. Will look nice and is very easy to touch up later.

    I have the trail gear sliders as they werebolton and I wound up just welding them on since I didn't want to drill all the holes. Mine are flat and make great steps for the wife and kid.

    My sliders are bolt on, and I've beat the shit out of them. I also didn't have to drill any holes. I also wouldn't recommend the same vendor that I have, so there's that. Definitely skip powdercoat and just rattle can, because if you use them, you'll just be touching them up anyways.

    Hell you don't even have to use them. Tires kicking up rocks on a gravel road will destroy powder coat on sliders. It just doesn't make any sense to spend money on powder on something appropriately called a rock slider.

    The "hammered" finish spray paints are awesome for hiding the little chips you get on sliders, bumpers, etc from driving gravel roads.
