HomerTaco's big old bucket o’ bolts build

So this past week I finally hit the 500 mile required break-in for the new rear diff.
Today I drove it for a bit to warm up then drained & refilled with the recommended Lucas 85w-140 gear oil.
No pics but I got the diff skid reinstalled without too much hassle either.

One thing that's been bugging me is the trans shifter... When I installed the Hurst/Core short shifter one of the advantages is that it allows me to alter how the transmission stick is situated within the center console. This is one of the main reasons why am able to fit all four shifters in the stock location.
Unfortunately, when mounting it on the opposite side from what its intended to be it likes to wiggle loose.
So today, for only the second time since I installed it, I disassembled the center console and tightened up the two hex head bolts that fasten the shifter stick to the shifter assembly. It took four times as long to get to them then it did to tighten them up and put blue Loctite on them.



I took it for a quick spin around the neighborhood in the shifting is nice and crisp now.
The only small repairs left to do are to disassemble both the driver and passenger door panels and reattach the armrest pieces where they have partially separated from the rest of the door panel. Not a big deal but something that is on my shortlist.

Very much looking forward to hitting the trails with my friends from across the river on Sunday.

 

Is there someone in our area that has a industrial sewing machine that can sew webbing?

 

Don't know about that one Chris.
Upholstery shops have heavier machines that can do leather. Maybe start there?

 

I want to shorten some tiedown straps.

 

Look up skydiving locations too, they usually can, or they know a guy.

 

The only sky diving club I know of in the area is in South New Jersey.

 

I tested out my extra tie downs Jerry helped me install, now I'm thinking about shortening the straps a bit.

 

I'm not sure what's more bad ass, your current rig or your license plate!

With that said I love the look of those 80's Toyotas pinstripe/graphics and all.

 

I know someone that has a HD Singer industrial machine. But not heavy thread or needles.

So I had a bit of a bad day yesterday... I was driving to a store & I got hit by a woman pulling out into my lane from a side street. Came out of nowhere & was completely unavoidable.
Pretty sure my little Scion tC is toast.



I was going about 30-35 (speed limit) when it happened. No seatbelt. (dumb, I know)
My head hit the windshield & my mouth hit the wheel...



Got to ride in an ambulance to the local ER - got a cat scan & was sent home. Just have a headache now.



Been going through all the insurance & work related stuff today over the phone. Was told to take it easy for a couple days and I'll be fine.

Going to take a while until this goes away...



Going to be shopping for a new car I think.
