    Good to know.

Any trannies you recomend? I do NOT want an auto. So far my choices for manuals..is NV4550 or something like that or a SM465. Of the two the NV is winning in my book but i read constantly you can't slam gears in it. Its a slower tranny. Which i don't like.

Transmissions are tricky. Gm offerd an manual behind the 5.3 and 6.0, but it was a super rare option. If you want a manual, I'd go with an nv, they are way stronger, and have more aftermarket options. If you put brass syncros in it, you can slam gears, and float them too, but you may have to go with a Nv4500 at that point for the aftermarket support, because those are what came behind the Cummins for years, and there is aftermarket support for high hp and tq.

    Too expensive and not 4wd

Yea the nv4500 is what I meant.

Well that may be the way to go

T56 isn't a bad way to go, but they are expensive. Nv4500 should be pretty easy to find, and if you find one that was behind a Cummins, it should hold a v8 pretty easy. You may have to do the 5th gear fix, but if it's already out, why not? I had an 4500 behind the Cummins I had, and that fucker was strong once I replaced the weak factory clutch. That bitch was always ready to squeal the tires.

Lol too much money. Would rather 2jz it instead and bolt it to my current tranny.

I drove Cummings which must have had the nv4500. Throw was epic long haha

I'll look into more. Probably have to run it. And find a tcase.

You can get the 5.3 with an aluminum block. Not all are cast.

Haven't looked at classes really..so not sure. Be fun to enter a race for real every once in a while. With a v8 swap I'd probably be in a class out of my driver skill. But still be fun.

No not yet. Need to though for my led pods.

So Ben brings up a good point. Although as iirc there is aluminum block 5.3l block, the iron ones will support more hp, it's going in a Tacoma, so even in its stock form it will be a huge gain. Nelson racing engines did a YouTube series on the 5.3 and the power they can make. It's a good 3 or so videos to watch to get some great information on the engines and making power, and what to do, and what not to. The aftermarket support for these engines is insane, black bear performance did my last tune in my old 5.3, and they killed it. It'seems a little expensive, but well worth the money for a well done tune on efi live.

Yea they are a bit harder to find. I don't think i'd go past 400hp which is easy as hell to get and not threatening for the Al block. 400hp from a V8 will be INSANE with the tacoma.

The NV4500 also has crazy gear ratios...1st will be so damn low. 6.34 lol almost twice as low as my current 1st gear..should go back to 4.10s haha

Long throw can be corrected with a shifter, my Cummins was a 94, with .05x.16 injectors, and a bd killer b turbo, and a dual disk ceramic clutch, and a bunch of pump tuning. That tranny never skipped a beat, granted I would be surprised if it was pushing more than 350hp and 700 tq, but it was a solid truck. I have no doubts that the tranny would hold a v8. Transfer cases wouldn't be a huge issue, Cummins came with a chair or gear transfer cases, that were manual shift.

Yea sounds like the way to go. Won't be super cheap but whatever.

Yea well if i do the V8. That'll be the start of the cage and might as well 4 link the rear with a fuel cell...thus race truck.

Yes i need to get lock nuts or pad locks.

I'll look at the 4.8. But i think the 5.3 would be a better platform. I don't think i'd run boost with the V8

So if you're going to look for a trans, look for one that went behind a 94-02 Cummins, it would be your best bet. Boost is cool, and from what I've researched, about 7 psi is the magic number before you need a built motor.

    .....

okay so yea..i would look into haha

But at that point Id need a custom front end diff to hold the power. Although with a V8 i could get rid of the 5.29s(Hellllooooo Igor on 35s ) and go to 4.10s again which would mean i could run a 2nd gen front diff...

Psi is relative though. All about efficency and flow rates. But 7psi is better than 0psi :D

Good to know on the tranny. Any ideas on the tcase? has to be a lefty drop...which is another problem.

I have the right year to do a proper turbo build as I can get a fully fuctional standalone for less than 450.

But for that...I'm back to the 2jz.

So while it's super windy in Wyoming right now, it's super windy AND pouring rain in Nevada. 2 trees barely missed my Grandma's house 16603131_10211159696203499_671004231484094822_n.jpg16508902_10211159696163498_7223733421943193675_n.jpg

So as I recall, a 241 the case is a left hand drop, and comes behind a 4500. Not completely sure on that though, as I sold my cummins for a Tacoma about three years ago

Nice. Well something to start looking for.

Hell no. If I could I'd have it right now. No I can get a full standalone ecu for my year of 5vzfe with a base map. This means no piggy backs. Our stock ecus suck to tune. Freaking horrible. The standalone would allow me full control and unleash full power potential. Very popular option in turbo mr2 builds.

Ebay turbos are cheap. If he can find a 2jz for that, he needs to buy it, but as ircl you can flip the exhaust manifolds on a 5.3, and build your own turbo setup, but I can't remember for sure if that is correct. It's been a number of years since I looked into that setup.
