    1st GEN MANUAL 4WD 4 DOOR
I'm looking for a 1st gen tacoma, MUST HAVE 4 DOORS, manual 4wd. colors preferred: white, black, green. I can pick up anywhere in california. Let me know! Thanks
Hey just joined this site and it's fuckin rad !!!! Love you fellow tacoma drivers!

I have a 98 white manual 4wd ext cab SR5. It has 242k miles on it but wow it has NEVER let me down. One time the battery died so I got a new one 6 months ago.

Only thing is I really need a 4 door truck.
    IMG_8839.jpg

If someone wants to do a trade or I could just buy the truck and sell mine. It's a little hard for me to part with my taco but I really need a 4 door..
So if anyone out there has a 4 door 1st gen, please let me know. I can come pick it up anywhere in CA.

If you are interested in doing a trade, I have done so many things to the truck in the last 6 months.. I have all the paperwork of everything I have fixed, spent more than $1400 on it.

Otherwise I can buy your 4 door.
    Thanks!

The double cab trucks only came with automatics from the factory, so the only ones out there are conversions and they seem to sell for a premium.

    Good luck!

So in your vehicle description you must mean the 4wd system is all manual? I thought they had never come with any transfer that wasnt electronic?

When i first saw it i thought you had it converted! But then read your post...

The 3.4 with a 5-speed is great. I miss my 01 Xcab. I drove double cabs with the same 3.4 but the automatic, and said fuck this. The auto tranny cuts the balls off that engine. That's why I have a 15 DCLB now. I needed the DC for my growing family, so my path became clear pretty quickly The new truck is also an automatic because you can't get a 2nd gen DCLB with a manual. But for an auto, paired with the 4.0, it's not bad at all. And I've never driven anything but manuals since I got my driver's license in, like, 1982.

So if you go looking for a second gen, beware on those options too. There are more models and trims that vary with powertrain options.

Looks like a 2nd gen is in your future.
I wish my "02" doublecab was manual...that's for sure.

Luckily...I can still row gears in my other vehicle.

You could have gotten one, but it would have been a special order form the factory. I'm sure there's 1 or 2 out there, but good luck finding it!

Probably be cheaper to just do a swap anyway. My brother and I did it years ago to my '86 22RTE 4Runner. Used the manual trany off a '92 reg cab IIRC...

When I bought my '01 ExtraCab in December 2000, I was originally looking at the 4 door. Then I found out they only came as an automatic. So I got the manual Extracab. I'm glad I did, as I would've dreaded having a short bed.

Sweet truck! Those 4 door 4wds are the unicorn in the first gen world. I love the 6' bed, but a four door is appealing. They often go for 11.5 grand or more in the bay area, I check frequently. Any low mileage one sells within 24 hours, if under 14K

Theres always the option of getting one swapped in if you cant do it. Theres a company that will do it for about 3k. Parts and labor included. Im seriously considering it as an option of my auto ever takes a shit on me.
