That's how I buy my trucks. Notice the bio written on the glass. The air bag kicked the previous owners ass majorly. Removed old bag and installed new ones and now have my present daily driver.

    Exactly.

My friend had a spider in her car one day come down from the visor and swears she nearly wrecked, so I can totally see that. My wife is deathly afraid of them

I bought the truck for $5500. I put another $1000 in parts and frame straightening.

This truck is actually an '04, but I had a '98 that had most of the front end parts I needed. I figured, this is my truck and I could give 2 shits if it has the wrong front end.

I bought it with 40k miles and have put another 40k on it since.

Thank you. This one I put together the year before I got the Tacoma. It took a hell of a lot of convincing to get the wife to go along with buying older instead of newer. I had the '98 parts truck, so I figured, why not use it.

How many people on this forum actually know how to drive a stick and/or enjoy it?

I just realized that the 3rd gen Tacoma is one of only two trucks available in the United States with a manual transmission! The other one is the Ram heavy-duty, and that's only if you get the diesel engine.

I didn't know how to drive a stick when I got my Tacoma, but a few years ago my uncle taught me in his 1991 Toyota 2WD regular cab pickup and I mastered it in like 20 minutes!

Everyone on Tacoma World knows I have Asperger's Syndrome, which is a high-functioning form of autism. I have 5 close friends with Aspergers, 3 guys and 2 girls (2 are siblings). Of the 5 of us, 4 of us have driver's licenses and our own vehicles. The one guy who isn't licensed yet is working on getting his permit and rides with me most of the time. The youngest one of us is 23 and oldest is 30, and we got our licenses between the ages of 18 and 24 years of age. I'm the only one in that group that knows how to drive a stick shift!

Of my entire group of friends who I regularly hang out with, both those who have Asperger's and those who do not, I am one of only two people who know how drive stick. The other guy drives an 18-wheeler for a living and worked as a car mechanic before he got his CDL, so he obviously knows how to drive stick!

I am friends with most of my coworkers at Puck and we are like one big family, and I consider a couple of them best friends, but I will categorize them separately from the list of friends I just mentioned.

Some people may find it impressive that someone with Asperger's has this many friends!

Anyway, a lot of the people I work with, but not all, know how to drive a stick shift. Two of them have a daily driver with a manual transmission. I always bust on my boss by saying the one thing I can do that she can't is drive stick.

And there's my cousins! I 6 cousins; 2 on my dad's side and 4 on my mom's side. I was the last of the 7 to get my driver's license. Even my youngest cousin, born in 1992, got her driver's license before I got mine. I am one of three of my cousins who know how to drive stick! My youngest cousin and my oldest cousin, both girls, are the other two. Of three male cousins, I'm the only guy who knows to drive a stick! The only adults in my family who can't drive stick are my grandma, step-grandma, and an aunt.

So yeah, everyone in my family born from 1975 to 1992 is proof that the statistics about the declining popularity of manual transmissions is true! It sucks!

So yeah, how many people here actually know how to drive a stick? Or I should say, are there any millenials who know how to drive stick?

Im 27 and was born in 1989 so I guess I would be a millennial unfortunately. Out of the 7 vehicles I have own 4 have been sticks. Learned on a stick and my first car was a stick. My first auto was my 1990 Toyota Pickup that I desperately wanted to convert to a manual. The 2 other autos where just a thrasher vehicle that I used to commute to work. I sold my 1990 Toyota to buy my currant Tacoma which is a 5speed. If I can help it I would never own another auto I hate them. I love drinking stick it gives me something to do while driving LOL. I also have my CDL and drive big dump trucks with manuals in them too thats a whole different ball came than small vehicles with manuals ;) but I love it.

Vehicles in order from 1st to last

There are times I miss driving a manual and wish I could row my 3rd gen. Before now, I've always had at least one vehicle in my fleet with a manual transmission.

In the early 00's when I was in college, I drove an old Ford Econoline party van with a straight six and a 3 on the tree. Any time I'd give someone a ride I'd get asked why I was shifting an "automatic" like a manual or why my "automatic" had a clutch pedal. I had to teach all my buddies the shift pattern to drive it. When I would take it in for tires or an alignment, I'd generally be asked to drive it onto the lifts because the techs wouldn't know how to drive it.
