Got 5L of oil and a genuine Toyota parts oil filter to tackle my first 3K change since I got my rig at the end of October.

Saw a couple folks post about some sort of drain plug thingy to make changing oil and easier job? Wondering if I should wait to do the work to add the thingamajig while I'm in there...

I'll have to order mine after I do the gears and front locker here shortly. I'll need new tires when I do them also.

If you read the assembly instructions on their website you will see reference to an O-ring and that you need to stretch it. Be warned that it was molded as a long rope and the two ends were welded together. It's very easy to break that seam so I always advise to feel for the welded seam and stretch everything but it. Also, keep a spare O-ring handy as a pressure blowout between the two metal halves will destroy it. Think they are around ten bucks or so.

I painted the plate, the u-bolts and the nuts a light gray color. Originally, I was going to do white, but decided that the light gray would have an "already dirty" appearance to it, and might look better when dirt gets on it. I wasn't sure if it would stick to the zinc plating, but I tried anyway. Seems to have turned out pretty nice. I also painted most of the longer center pin, and clear coated the shim, to prevent corrosion for as long as possible. I may paint the springs at some point (there are already some rust spots on them), but I was impatient and wanted to install them.

Nicely done sir!!! My Dakars are showing the tiniest bit of rust after about a year.

BUT, they have been dead quiet. Which I like a lot.

My sister and fiancee bought it from craigslist here in Austin, and surprised me with it a few birthdays ago. She set up an alert that would email her when any new camper shells were added. This one is a Jason, with windoor sides. It came with a roof rack from the previous owner, which was nice.

Wait until you change your oil to install it, you'll have to wait another 3k to use it.
