Wheelset was first thing I changed. Went to Geax Saguaros, converted to tubeless on these http://bicyclewheelwarehouse.com/MTB/26/XC-Cross-Country/pure-xcr-pure-hubs.html

Yeah, the places I ride are basically just trails through the woods - fairly gentle elevation changes. Have to bunny over big tree roots and the occasional rock, but mostly the challenge is not getting stuck in the mud.

That's a good price. I used to ride Geax sturdy for a few years when I was riding Cleburne State Park and Dino. Those things were bullet proof.

I rode a couple laps out at Solavaca last weekend on the SS 29er. That's a great trail, but nothing really challenging.

Yup, Been riding since the late 90s. I started on a GF Joshua, switched to an Ibis Mojo which I retired a couple years ago for a carbon Foundry Broadaxe. Only things still on the frame from new are forks, headset, BB. and rear D.

If anyone get's down to Houston, hit me up. We ride/drink every Saturday it's dry.

This pic is almost stock. I think I only have seatpost/seat and bars replaced at this point. Oh wait, Front D gone and RF narrow wide.

Quite a few of my friends are switching to 27.5 or 27.5+. I really like the 27.5+ bikes. Rolling height of a 29" tire (but more nimble) with 3" of width and. Really helps down hur with all the freaking sand.

Ive ridden a handful of 29ers and just really didnt like the feel. Honestly I love the way a good 26 feels but they have gone the way of the dodo. So if I want to upgrade i'll have to deal with 27.5.

I liked my gosh talon 29er hard tail but sold it reluctantly. Now I have a specialized stunt jumper. Full suspension= the way to go

I just want something with a high end fork for once. I have a rock shox dart II currently and Ive lost track of how many times ive bottomed it out. The giant proprietary rear air shock is pretty nice though.

As far as 29'ers go, the older versions did tend to be a bit sluggish. Newer geometries put the bottom bracket way lower which helps lower your center of gravity. Also a light wheel build (I have custom built wheels with Hope Hubs and American Classic 101 hoops) help with unsprung weight and turn in. My Ibis was a very good steel hard tail 26'er. It handled well, but after a few rides on the Foundry, I'll never go back.

There are some 27.5+ frames that will also fit a 29 wheel set if you wanted to go that route. As far as forks go, a decent air sprung model should be good. Remote lockout is a nice feature, but I hardly use it in Houston.

JTenn- I'm in FTW too. Where do you normally ride? There's a new trail in Hudson Oaks on the lake.
