I grew up with almost exclusively stick shift (1970s, 1980s). My parents always had a Mercedes as I grew up and they were always auto, but other than that our other vehicles, trucks etc. were all stick. My Tacoma was my first auto, and we started getting minivans for my wife since about 2000, and they only came in auto.
My son is 17 and starting to drive now. I really want him to learn stick, but I can't even find anybody who has one that he can use to learn with.

I've had 1 automatic, and that's my 2015 trd or. Got bored of driving that one so passed it off to the wife and bought a 5 speed regular cab. Lol maybe I don't get on my phone enough to truly appreciate an auto.

    Hi Charlie!

Thanks for sharing with us! My son is 22, high-functioning autistic, but hasn't been able to get his license yet. Despite his incredible intelligence, he also has vestibular motor control delays that significantly slow reaction times. He's also in community college, and is about to get his AS in Computer Information Systems. He'd like to get a BS degree, but is tired of school and would like to work a little first.

Count me in as a member of your fan club, and I wish you continued success. Subbed!

That's why they call that big open spot behind the cab the BED.

    You take that back!

Nobody likes me :(... except that one time that older man asked me a bunch of questions and handed me a shot of tequila which I threw down my throat as I sprinted for the door.

Although I had some practice prior to getting my license, my first stick shift drive for any length on the road was just after getting my license and after school job. I worked at a service station (full service - hence 'service station' and not 'gas station') and had to take someone home who was having work done. Owner said, take the wrecker... Only advice he had was "keep the road speed up and the RPMs down".

First time backing up a trailer (i.e. car on the slings of the wrecker) was at the same job. Owner told me to "put the car by that Cadillac and don't hit it" - true story. He walked along side me as I backed up the car training me on proper use of mirrors and not looking over my shoulder.

    Thanks!

Sounds just like me minus the lack of a driver's license! There is so much money in IT though! I have feeling that he even if he doesn't get a driver's license, he will become so successful and wealthy that this will be how he gets around:

My original comment to my female cousin that made her burst out laughing: "My truck's air-conditioner is so cold that it numbs fingers and hardens nipples!"

The finger-numbing part I can verify as fact. We all know that typical vehicles including Tacos have vents positioned on either side of the steering wheels. On hot days when I have the A/C blasting, my fingers get blasted because of where I position my hands on the wheel. My hands regularly feel like I spent hours in below-freezing weather without gloves when I've really just spent an hour or less in my truck.

She thought it was so funny that she immediately texted her then-fiance (now husband) and he thought it was funny too.

As for the nipple-hardening part, that was more of a joke and I've not actually verified that. I did, however, see a Mexican commercial for a Toyota Corolla on YouTube, advertising that A/C was now standard:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5xKEGvo4xE
This commercial was produced for airtime in a country where possessing small amounts of powder cocaine for personal use is not against the law, so that should tell you something about the people who will be seeing it...

The A/C in my truck is COLD. I'm so proud of how well the A/C in my truck works that I include a description of it in my signature.

Last summer when I dropped the truck off at the dealer for an oil change and to get some normal wear-and-tear stuff fixed, I asked them to performance-test the A/C. It worked but I wouldn't have been surprised if it ended up needing the refrigerant topped off. I get my truck back and the tech told me he was amazed by what he found. Not only did my A/C put out 41°F at the vents, but he said it had the factory-recommended full charge! That's the original charge of R134a it left the factory with back in 2009!

I swear I have seen a fog lingering around the A/C vents when I have the air running on a hot day, and I have definitely seen my breath before.

I am glad your truck has cold AC, if I had to find something to complain about in my 2nd Gens it would be the barely adequate AC.

Your A/C doesn't work that good? Maybe it's because mine is a regular cab and yours is an access cab?

The regular cab aspect helps greatly with AC effectiveness, as there is less 'air' to 'condition'. My DC takes 30-45 minutes before either AC or heat have uniformly effected the cabin space.

Before anyone chimes in "BUT IT'S SNOWING, LOLOLOL!!!1!" the high here yesterday was 86˚ and today is going to be the same so yes, I did legitimately use my AC in the second week of February.

And I mean that in a good way...

I've loved trucks since I still in preschool and knew I wanted one when I started driving. When that time finally did come, my dad bought me a brand new Tacoma as a gift. I am not one of those people who sees a vehicle simply as transportation. My dad and I extensively researched what pickup truck was best, and it should come as no surprise that the Tacoma won. When my dad bought that truck, I knew I was getting one of the best vehicles in its class. The Tacoma is proof that you can do everything short of driving a vehicle straight to hell and back, but it will never fail to take care of you if you always take care of it.

What I didn't realize when my dad handed me the keys was that in way, I also getting a front door key to one of the largest but also most tight-knit clubs in North America! By that I mean not only Tacoma World but Tacoma owners as a whole.

I've had perfect strangers, some of whom own Tacomas themselves and approach me in parking lots and at gas stations saying how much they like my truck. One day when I was in a particularly bad mood (don't remember why), I went to Navy Federal to deposit a check. I parked in a spot right outside the front entrance, and I was on the phone. The next thin I knew, this older man was approaching me asking me about my truck. He had a Tacoma as well, buy it was like a 2007. He'd owned it since new and despite having put like 300K miles on it, it ran just as good as the day he drove it off the lot. We ended up talking for a while, so long I almost forgot that I was at the bank and had business to take care of.

One thing I've realized is that Tacoma owners are very nice people. Thanks TW!

I have owned a couple dozen vehicles, only three automatics. My daughter learned to drive in a Dodge pickup with 3 on the tree. She had it for a while after she married and her husband had to get his dad to teach him how to shift it. That was probably hard on his ego.
