Last night, I spent some time looking critically at my battery / fuse block / wiring.

To date, everything I have done is extremely modular and simple to remove / maintenance.

It occurred to me that if I hard mounted some things, it would clean up and shorten some connections, and possibly allow me to move the battery over slightly and gain up to 1" of bed space.

I'll be mounting a water vessel for OBW, so I'm trying to optimize space.

    Current setup
    DSC01578_d44bf00326fd3c75cafba46f40879b5f98852dcc.jpg

I'm considering doing something similar to @Nate87 's work below.

I think it's the cleanest electrical work I've seen on a Tacoma.

I really like those Eaton/Bussman RTMR boxes, because they are so compact. Anyone still offering built boxes for sale? EDIT: Found built boxes for $179. Too much $$, will pass.

@Sandman614 offers built Bussman boxes, you can find them in the Group Buy forum. I started off with a Blue Sea block but got frustrated with how messy things became once I had more than 3 relayed circuits. The Bussman block will allow me to cut down on clutter and simplify the overall electrical accessory situation. I'd highly recommend one if you are looking for a cleaner solution.

That's some clean work by Nate but wow that takes up some real estate. The 10 circuit bussmann boxes I offer start at $120.

    Thanks. Awesome product for sure!

Thanks. I'm slightly embarrassed as a regular member of the forum -- I didn't know that! :anonymous:

I also think I've only been in that section of the forum once! Probably the day it created!

    I've stayed out, cause

    That's pretty awesome!

The cubby hole is the stock cubby in the bed. I usually put small random loose camping stuff in there while traveling.

Thanks. Did not know; appreciated. Good price, IMO. Yeah the bussman boxes seem like the most compact solution to fused / relayed circuits. I'll for sure get one whenever I tackle off-road lighting for under the hood.

    :)

Which was eliminated I think in 2012 - so those of you with more recent models don't go looking for your missing cubby ;)

Those cubby holes above the wheel wells were there for the robot that placed the bed onto the truck at assembly. They changed up the robot thus eliminating the need to cut the two holes and to have two people stuff the inserts into them.

Is this also the reason behind the utterly questionable design of the bins behind the back seat? Designed to accommodate old robots, rather than truck owners and their truck stuff?

Alright @G.T. you got me, not sure if serious :notsure: o_O :D But will play!

So I searched for the truck bed robots and it turns out that, we are being watched! :spy:

Found this nearly three (3) year old news article titled "
Are Robots Behind Perceived Drop in Toyota Tacoma Build Quality?"

It cites, TW specifically as a potential metric for Tacoma build quality. lolz hope they don't go into thurd gen section!

Also said Toyota was adding more humans and less robots to boost build quality!

I don't know about that. I think they were simply designed to be annoying.

I asked at the factory tour and that is what they told me. I'm glad my 2011 has them as they are good stash spots for rolls of tissue.

LMAO! Seriously I think they are cool, but it makes sense since they are just a hole. It would be more useful if they included a little door like the other ones. Better would be like the Ram trucks that have the locking bed side compartments. This reminds me that I need to open up the back seat compartments.
