Today I was in drive not moving slightly turned and changed to 4WD high and when I started to drive the rear wheels were skidding I switched it back to 2WD and then back to 4WD and it seemed fine. It did this a couple times. Any ideas?

Yeah...ya locked the transfer case with the wheels turned, forcing the rear to try and turn slower than the front, so you experienced binding.

Normal, working as intended. Don't make sharp turns in 4wd on high traction surfaces.

i hope you know.. you should be in 4wd on dry pavement and going into any turns.. you only put it in 4wd if you are experiencing slippery roads.

didn't hurt anything. going off road does this to you to a slight degree anyhow

    but
doing this all the time, like, ignoring the binding.... is bad.

    as long as you know:

if in 4wd on pavement with grip, and having to turn tight, try to disengage 4wd before
the turn. if you have no choice, creep !!! do not go fast !

transfer case itself can carry all the torque...but it's asking too much to
do that above creeping speed when all tires have solid grip.

As other have stated, asphalt is a big no-no for 4wd.

It's meant for slippery conditions (snow, sand, dirt, ice, etc) where nothing will load up or bind.

If you are up to learning, Toyota did this educational step through. There is even questions during it. It's sorta school like but if you go through it I am sure you will get all of the different type of systems.

Yea, don't worry if you get the questions wrong, it lets you skip by LOL.

It's actually kind of neat to help you understand 4wd, vs AWD etc.

As others have said, 4wd only on surfaces where your tires can slip (sand, gravel, snow, dirt, etc). Otherwise, with one trip, you'll be paying your mechanic's rent.

my only concern is some 4x4 bind easy some don't
I was getting so worried driving in the snow today having it in 4x4 kept turning it off for turns, but its too slippery so had to keep it on.

Figure it should be ok, any turns I did I went 15km or less and nothing sharp.
Just want to be clear on this as when I had 4x4 in the past I also didn't care to baby it. It was my jeep and was an off road/winter beater.
Binding will for the most part only happen if you are going fast and don't allow wheel slip?
for one turn I had to make today in 4x4 I was almost at a full lock, crawled the whole turn though until I straighten out. Roads are completely covered in snow, didn't hear any sort of binding though.

Only thing I've heard was a bit of a clunk/pop when I turned off 4x4 before pulling in my driveway at home.

Just to be clear....this is what the streets look like
