Definatlly. I did not expect to just hit the key & have it run perfect. I have priced the timing chain kits from LC Engineering & they are not as bad as I thought. The double roller conversion kit cost about $275 complete with the extra deep timing cover & a stock replacement chain kit (no cover) only cost $100. I think the thing to do is to pull mine apart & decide if the cover is reuseable or not. A new cover cost another $115 so if mine is worn through then I will go with the double roller conversion for $60 more.

A re-man master cylinder throuh Napa will cost $60.

I am not going to bother pricing the donuts, they can't be more than a couple bucks.

All in all not bad considering at this point I have spent less thna $100 to get it running & the battery was most of that.

    Damn right!

    yeah, you did!

I have been thinking about the timing chain & I am leaning towards sticking with the single row chain but upgrading to the metal guides. Granted I don't know what kind of condition the stock cover is in, but I can't see it being unusable. It's just Aluminium......and I do work at a machine shop for cying out loud. Even if I have to weld, grind, patch or what ever, I think I can make it work. :)

I wish, but my boy is still not feeling well today so taking them all out to dinner doesn't sound like fun too me. I think my wife is making stuffed bell peppers at home tonight if you are interested tho. I'll prob. go out back & work on the 4-runner some more after dinner.

I've talked my self out of the double roller timing chain set up so I am left with 3 options for a new timing chain kit

Option 1 - LCE complete kit with metal guides $149.95

Option 2 - LCE complete kit with plastic guides $99.95

Option 3 - Oreily's complete kit with plasic guide & lifetime warranty, in stock for $53.99.

    What do you guys think?

I'm not sure if the cover is damaged or not but it is aluminum so worst case I can weld in up & grind it smooth.

I agree that the metal guides would be real nice but I don't know if I can bring myself to pay 3 times over for them.

X2! Plus you've got to think "I'm going to beat the shit out of this creampuff" and with that mindset you want to overbuild everything. So in this case, metal is better.

I have been reading write ups on how to replace the timing chain on a 22re. They all "advise" that you remove the cylinder head & oil pan completely . Removing the oil pan requires removal of the front diff .

Some people say that as long as your guides are intact & there is no chance that pieces have fallen into the oil pan that you can get away with just removing the front 2 oil pan bolts that go to the cover. I'm not sure what I am going to do. It would be nice to pull the head & have a valve job but my pockets are not deep enough for all that. A head gasket set from LCE cost $115, but has everything. I could remove the oil pan & clean it out if I need to, It would be a ton of labor but shouldn't cost too much. I guess I will go ahead & pull the timing cover & see if the guides are still in one piece. I am going to try & avoid removing the head at all cost. Either way, it looks like this is going to be a hell of a job.

Remember wha the cookie said? LOL. It's all good, I am going to get this bitch running like a top, it is just going to take a little time. I could just slap a new crank seal in it to stop the leak, but the timing chains on these motors are know to be problematic so I just want to go ahead & replace it.
