I recently bought a 2000 Tacoma Ext Cab, Automatic V6. I replaced the engine and was putting in a gps unit and also keyless entry using the existing power door locks. I unplugged the connectors located behind the inside fuse box, looking for the wires controlling the power door locks and the parking lights.

I was running out of daylight, so I decided to plug them back in and, finish up for the day. When I went to restart it, it turns over fine, but does not start, and the headlights started blinking. The power windows and door locks do not work either.

I assumed it was some type of antitheft feature or an alarm system installed in the car, but I was unable to find anything like that.

Hoping someone knows a way to reset the car, so i can get it started again.

BTW, The battery is good, and its not the fuel pump.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

I just went to try and start it again after it sat for 3 hours with the battery disconnected. I reconnected the battery and tried to start it. No change. I played with the headlight switch and they did not turn on. I switched them on and off while turning the key and it started up perfectly, but the horn went off continually. It only stopped blowing the horn after I disconnected the battery again.

Anyone know how to resolve this? Thanks again.

Soumds like a ground problem or an issue with the integration relay. (Early version of a body control module ) Did you splice or tap into any wires?

I spliced into the ACC, the Always Hot POS+ and the fuel pump wire.

Your a 2000 may not have integration relay. I'd need to know were you spilced in. Behind fuse panel or? Why would you splice into fuel pump wire? Was it before or after fuel cut relay? Aka fuel pump relay. Usually under steering column.

I spiced into the fuel pump along on the floor under the plastic strip covering it. I spliced into the Hot and ACC under the steering wheel. Seemed to work fine until I moved the integration relay.

You do have the relay. Take it out and pop it open. Look for broken solder joints or any thing burnt. Still don't understand why you'd need to dplice into fuel pump wire.

I spliced into the fuel pump wire for a kill switch. With the gps unit, you can remotely shut off the fuel pump. I'll take it back out tomorrow and see if I can see anything out of the ordinary. Thanks for the help.

That makes sense. But you'd be better off the interrupt the circuit open relay signal. (trigger wire) See page 4 of the pdf I uploaded.

I pulled out the integration relay and looked at the circuit board and connections. No apparent issues. No blown fuses.

Now when I plug in all the connections and reconnect the battery cable the horn goes off continually and the rear driver's side parking light stays on.

Thanks mechanicjon for the help and pdf.

This is driving me crazy. I see no fray ground wires. I bugged it all back together and now the high beam light stays on and while in the acc position or turning the starter, I turn the lights on and the horn blares, I turn the lights off and the horn stops. I cannot get it started again. I can't believe is got myself into this position.

Im thinking about just swapping out the integration relay. The truck's electrical is all messed up. the dome lights and door lights are not working. I can get is started if I play with the light switch, the windshield wipers go on when I turn the light switch, but the lights do not go on. If I do get it started, I can only drive it a few feet before it stalls. Now the horn does not go off. I'm thinking it must be a circuitry issue.

Please let me know what you think. I bought this truck to get back and forth to home depot, and I really don't want to put a ton of money into it.

    Thanks

When you say wont start. It wont crank over or cranks but wont start. There is a good ground from negative battery post to inner fender? Complete unhook your GPS and put wiring back to stock. See what happens.

The ground connection to the inner fender is good. The starter turns over solid. It runs great as long as I leave the turn signal handle up in the right turn position, and I leave the car in park. Now the odometer is completely blank. The vehicle seems to be possessed.

I'm guessing I fried the integration relay when I unplugged the sockets in the rear of the fuse box with the negative terminal still connected.

Just an update.... it ended up being the integration relay. Replaced it with a used one from a junk yard for $60.
