Switching into 4 wheel drive

    crap bolted and welded together....
    So i hate that we have to come to a stop to put our trucks in to 4x4. Is their anyway besides new transfer case or anything to be able to switch into 4x4 without having to come to a stop? I ask because i drive over the pass's in oregon a lot and i hate having to pull over to switch.

    hmm i have on 06 spd and if i try to put it in there are what i like to call horrible sounds that occur. I wonder if it depends on auto/manual trannys.

    I know!!! I hate that too. I had to take the back road after work yesterday and allmost got my truck stuck...Grrrr. My Powerstroke was shift on the fly when ever it worked...lol

    I have a 6spd and I can shift on the fly into 4wd as long as i'm doing less than 60mph

    you can switch to 4hi on the fly as long as your front and rear wheels aren't spinning at different speeds. Then it goes CLUNK

    Have a 10 and shift on the fly under 60 with no problems just like it says in my manual. Is this a newer feature? It says only to 4 lo do I have to stop, or actually just under 2mph and in neutral with the man. trans.

    My truck is a 2.7 5spd and I have never had any trouble putting it in 4x4 hi while in motion. 4x4 lo requires you to be stopped, in neutral with the clutch pedal pushed in all the way to the floor.

    Sometimes mine will blink at me if theres too much load. If I let off the gas it usually switches immediately in I'm assuming because its taking load off the drivetrain.

    You talking about going into 4 lo bud? it was my understanding that you can go into 4 hi on the move as long as your under 62 mph I think. I believe thats what the manual says, I'd never transfer going that fast, but got hit hard with some snow and ice in Maryland last week and had to go to 4 hi going about 35 mph and it switched over fine.

    nope 4hi, the clunk sound is prolly because of mixed speed between front and rear end speed, and or to much load as others have stated.

    Yeah, shift into 4hi when your not on the pedal. If I am going uphill, I will actually speed up then let off the gas completely and switch so that I am not on the pedal when it needs to engage. 4 lo will beep at you if your not in N.

    Fat Bobs 2.75 lift and level with short AAL, 16x8 Level 8 Guardian Wheels, 245/75R16 Toyo Open Country ATII, custom trans shift kit(home made), Trans temp. and Vac gauge, URD fuel pump upgrade(going back to stock soon).
    Turning will cause the differential to rotate the front dirve shaft faster than the rear and one side of each axle to turn faster than the other. In other words do it when driving straight.

    same here, except if I switch it while I'm making a right turn I seem to remember hearing some slightly scary noises so only switch when driving straight
