I took mine in at 5k, didn't even know there was an 8k service. The dealer said see you at 10k, so maybe they didn't either...

I was told every 5k, but I would defer to your owners manual, because that is what will make you or break you

I have done everything myself pretty much. I still need to do my 30K mile service but everything before that, you should be able to do yourself. Not hard at all.;)

$72 charge....for the 5K service.....change oil, rotate tires, inspect brakes, rear spring TSB, HVAC blower replacement. Service was chargable at a dealership near my home in CT, but I actually bought the truck in NH (much better deal, but 330 mile roundtrip for service!!!)

I'll go through the recommended services through the warranty period...then.......on my own...

My owners manual and maintenance guide has no mention of 8K service. My 2009 Toyota literature starts at 5K and increases in intervals of 5K thereafter.

Maybe the residents of Hawaii have to service their trucks more often.

They probably just said that under the old "oil change every 3k" mentality. Let's face it, most of the service managers aren't the brightest bulbs...

You would be surprised on how much ABUSE these things can take. I have never babied a TOYOTA, just ran the crap out of it and it still runs like a champ.

The electronics is what you need to worry about. Already over 400.00 in parts alone for three parts.

That's fine if your truck is out of warranty or if your truck-child can talk and tells you about its needs. What I think is right for my truck includes periodic chassis and wheel bearing lubrication, but mine has no grease fittings. So where does that leave me? The owner's manual is our bible until the warranty expires. Toyota can refuse any claims if the service intervals are not followed *and documented*, or if the vehicle was abused or used for anything other than its intended purpose. No I am not a laywer but I play one on TV. ;)
