He hit a mud puddle and truck died on him. Something to do with starter I think or a sensor got wet.

I was thinking about it earlier, and I'm not sure where the solenoid is located on a 3rd gen, but water and solenoids never mixed. Also, they tend to make a click sound when they have a bad connection, or are full of water. That shouldn't have made it stall though. I'm willing to bet it's more than one thing.

Is the solenoid normally located close to the starter?

In older vehicles, yes. Many newer vehicles have it on the firewall. It can be anywhere.

It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.

big thanks to justin and chris, they saved my ass. basically i was going through that puddle, wasnt going that fast and water wasnt on the hood. but on the way out the truck just killed the ignition. i winched out and the winch remote showed like 90% battery. but when i tried to start it it just clicks, didnt turn over at all. we disconnected the battery for 10 mins and cleaned some grounds but no luck.

    20170211_112225.jpg

it was stuck in a bad spot. nowhere to really turn around and surrounded by mud on all sides. eventually we got it turned around so justin could get by and he ended up towing me all the way out back to the road.

    20170211_132017.jpg

kindof sucked. we did about 15 minutes of riding before getting stuck. i feel really bad for justin, he basically drove down, pulled me out and then headed home lol. thanks again guys ill try and make it up. but just to be clear, this is purely coincidental this happened to a 3rd gen! dont read into that at all

Shit happens man. We all expect it when we take our truck off road. Keep the updates coming. I'd like to know what happened.

I go by the never wheel alone rule. I headed home when I heard you were having problems. I only live 6 miles from the slab, so no big deal. We will have to set up another trip soon. I believe that we are fairly booked up on meets for the next month or so.

Sorry @BarberRider . I wasn't paying attention to the thread earlier and didn't know what was going on with you. Bad timing on showing off my new wheels. Glad you got your truck out. What dealership did you drop it off at?

I know but i would have waiting at least a little bit. At least i learned a valuable lesson. If i offroad in mine, take along a couple of 2ND geners along. Look grey but flat black.

Love to hear what hoover tells you. My first maintenance I asked them to check the transmission fluid they said no problem and noted on my paperwork it was good. On my third I inquired that it wasn't checked. Guy said it's a closed system and I would have to leave it overnight. Got him to pull up my old paperwork showing where they checked it the first time. Asked how they could have checked in an hour and a half. I got the:confused: look.

ive been going to serra toyota. i actually really like both my service advisors. they havnt given me any trouble at all about any of the mods. hopefully hoover can figure this out pretty quick. i mean i dont think theres any way water could have gotten in the engine. the hole it died in, water was just about up to my sliders. the one we went through before was a little deeper. but crossing it the first time the airbox was on the high side. coming back we came straight through. how high would you say it was chris? but i turned it off and back on and ran it for 5 mins after so i dont think that was it.

Oh and make sure you have a 2wd that is useless in pulling you out.

    I would say 3-4'?

@dcoursler its the same hole I hit. Then we went further into the place and that's where he stalled. Crazy because the first one was way bigger. I honestly think it's some kind of sensor.
