My ex-wife's parents had a ferret that they spent an ungodly amount of money on. I would look at it and think, it's just a rat.

To each his own, I guess.

    true.

I don't have any kids yet, only 2 cats. My wife and I would do and spend a bunch to keep them healthy. Vet bills probably average $600/year. Sammy had some surgery one year that bumped the average. It was about $4000 once everything was done with. The surgery was about $2000, but there were a few other emergency visits to the vet. But Sammy says thanks.

Are you kidding? I'd sell a couple right now if it were legal! And I don't mean cats....

And did you ever think that part of that may do to the fact that it's legal to put your pet to sleep, but not a human? Personally, I'd rather put an old, sick, pain-ridden family member to sleep like a family pet rather that make them waste away in a home somewhere. But laws prevent that.

Don't remember the out come on the dogs but I had a close call with my fiance's mix breed (can't figure out what it is..LOL). Delt with it and to this day we haven't had any problems since. Oops better knock on wood, LOL.

Hell, I've never spent $4000 on medical bills for MYSELF!! Let alone my kids or pets. :D

Closet I came was around $3500 for an ultrasound and MRI to see if I had a kidney stone per my mom (nurse) and the doc at her clinic. Really all I wanted was some pain killers or something to make it pass quicker, but instead I got a couple very expensive, pointless scans that did nothing to alleviate the problem. Luckily I was able to get Medicaid to cover it since I was out of work for 3 months. Needless to say had I known how much it was going to cost I would NOT have done it. I had kidney stones again a year or two later and just waited them out with some vicodin. :D No stupid doctor visit that time! I knew the routine, and knew I wasn't paying for that waste of time again.

Yes! It's good to read someone who knows dog psychology.

To those who are outraged by this, don't be. This is what a pack animal needs. They need to know exactly where they stand in the pecking order of the pack. It's really not important to most of them to be in charge as long as they see a strong alpha and they are confident of where they stand in the pack -- that they do have a place and belong.

An owner who acts like the alpha dog one minute, then a submissive the next confuses a dog. That's what causes behavior problems.

May not be the dogs fault. My Son at 4 was bit by one of our dogs. He was agrravating the dog by blowing in its face. I just happened to catch the dog snap at him. Luckily no damage & after the crying stopped. I asked him what did he do to the dog, he said "nothing, just playing with her." Another day I caught him blowing in her face, which she hated. And he said he was just playing with her. I believe he did the same thing the day she bit him. My Son terrorized our dogs when he was 2-4. I had to get on to him constantly about it. But he did out grow that phase. I wouldn't be too quick to get rid of the dog. Just keep an eye on them when they are together & see if you can see what is happening to cause your dog to bite.

I think that's a good idea! Especially with another dog in the house. If he's doing something Toy doesn't know about what happens if he does the same thing to the puppy? Hate to see them get rid of two dogs in the end.

I'm in the process of finding Carter a new home. He's been forgiven, but has to go. I'm not taking him to the pound, I'm keeping him until I place him personally. I want to know that he's going to a good home. I may already have a taker. A couple who's children are adults, live on an angus beef farm, and they are friends with my in-laws. They've expressed interest in him before.

My son does have his moments and I have to keep on him about it. It is a very good possibillity that something like that caused this. Without witnesses, one can only speculate.

It would be good. Carter is a from a working breed. I couldn't think of a better place for him. It would please me to have that dog running around keeping my future steaks :hungry: under control.:D

 Having 3 daughters myself I tend to look to them before the animals around here... :D Especially since they are so hyper and clueless sometimes. The cats have learned to avoid them..... The dog? Not so much yet. :D Plus, she's too big to hide behind the fridge or under the sink like the cats do.

If they are friends you could probably go visit often too if you wanted. Sounds like a good solution.

ya know, as annoying as my kids are I'm surprised my dog hasn't bitten them yet. And quite frankly I wouldn't blame her if she did. There are times I've been ready to knock them across the room so I can't believe how much patience she has shown with them. Not even a warning growl or bark unless they step or fall on her. Quite surprising I think for a breed supposedly bred to hunt bear.

We'll have to see if they take em first. My son and I both will miss playing catch with him.
