It's been up for sale for 2 years, was just gutted due to a waterlinew break+mold . It's like a vacation home. Says it's waterfront with boat slips it's Waterview with 0 slips. Also tells people it's built on a spring and that's why it has a fleet of sump pumps, again the basement is actually hightide.

After much procrastination I started back on my master bath remodel. Framing in an opening for a pocket door. After being traumatized by the evil loud nail gun and miter saw, one of the inspectors emerged from under a bed and judges my not so straight cuts. No word yet if I passed.

I put in the widest window I could and moved the old shower (phone booth size in the middle of the wall) to the back wall and made it the width of the room. You can see the remnants of the old shower on the ceiling where the drywall is missing. The shower will be glassed in. That little half wall will have a recess in it for soap/shampoo etc. I have a slot drain for it and there will be 3 shower heads: a rain shower in the ceiling, a wall mounted adjustable head and a wand. White oversize subway tile with grey grout for the walls (my GF pushed for that) and a dark grey 12x24 tile for the shower and bathroom floor.

Toilet next to the half wall and a 2 sink (small sinks) walnut or similar wood vanity next to that. White quartz countertop. And thanks to Oz I'm now going to install schluter in floor heating.

Still have a ways to go. I need to pull electrical but my service panel is a mess and I want/need to straighten that out first. I'm likely going to hire out the tile job. I never tiled and wanted to try it, but this project is just taking too long.

I'll make a thread for this during the week. But wanted to put this here. Sugar house is just about done. Today i Got the heat shield around pipe. I got the fire brick mortared
inside the evaporator and the pans on and level, got plumbing hooked up for the gravity feed tank. Hoping to do a test boil tomorrow with water to check for leaks. Then next weekend we should have a few hundred gallons of sap to cook.

No, I'm using a deck mud/membrane system. Tar paper and lathe, layer of sloped deck mud (1/4" per foot), membrane, another layer of sloped deck mud over that.

    EPDM ?

Do you want me to tell you why I don't like that system or just mind my own business ?

I can't speak for him, but I would like to hear why.
We're planning a bathroom in the next couple years.

I prefer the Schluter type system , either with their pre-shaped styrofoam base or a site made drypack mortar base with Schluter Kerdi over it . With the Kerdi on the top of the sloped sub base , whether it is the styro base or a dry pack mortar bed , your waterproof layer is directly under the tile / thin set . In the old school EPDM type system , the waterproofing layer is under the sloped mortar bed meaning that there is a large amount of cementitious material that can absorb and hold water that can lead to mould and funky smells

Well, crap. I just went on line to order a 32x80 single panel slab door from Home Depot and it said it will take nearly 2 months to arrive! WTF? I called to ask if this was a real date and they said it was. Apparently there is a 28 day processing period then another 3 weeks before it arrives. And it's made here in the USA. That's just f***ing ridiculous. This isn't a fancy complicated door. Arg. Gotta start looking elsewhere.

On another note - when I put this wall/pocket door up it's going to create a small, dark hallway. I was looking at the framing and thought the spaces between the cripple studs would make nice clerestory windows. Has anyone made their own windows? They won't open and are going to be interior, so it seems like a fairly easy job. Thoughts?

Make clerestory windows in the spaces between the studs?

Anyone done a full kitchen remodel?
    Cabinetry, appliances, backsplash...

Anything you would have done differently? Anything you forgot and would liked to have had?

The cost of doing an on site dry pack mortar bed with Kerdi is basically the same as an onsite mortar bed with EPDM

Yes. Gotten design help from someone with style! I like my kitchen but if I could go back I would have done darker wood cabinets and lighter countertops. But other than that I would say pony up on nicer things that are harder to change and save $ on easy change things. Later on you can go back and get the nicer easy things. Changing out a fridge is relatively easy, cabinets or countertops, not so much.
