So my dumbass went to do my first oil change on the Tacoma.
Not thinking straight I opened the overflow bolt on the transmission fluid tank. 1 quart drained out. (measured).
Once my buddy came to help we bought 2 quarts and pumped it back through the fill in spot. After my buddy did some reading on here we decided to then again open the overflow on the trani tank and that's where it all ended.
Is my truck drivable? Should I take it to get it checked out? How serious is the situation and what should my next step be.
    Thanks in advance!

You might have too much fluid in there. I would take it to a shop and have a pro look at it.

    Sounds good!
.... Any idea what they would do about it?
    Trani flush? Drain more fluid?

If you drained one quart out, why did you guys put 2 quarts back in?

Overflow on the tranny?.... that's where it all 'ended'?

You're skipping a few steps in your explanation to us.

    1) Start over.
    2) Put the right amount in there.
    3) You're done.

Take it to a shop. Tell them the whole story. They will get a laugh at your expense, however they have the reader to get the fluid level correct.

Then spray some red or orange paint to mark the tranny pan when you get home. Mistakes happen, there are plenty here that have done the same thing. To quote your original post you are only a "dumbass" if it happens again. :)

Idle truck for 10 minutes, open fluid check port, let it drain until trickle. Close port. Done.

    Easy fix

This would be fine, but when he says "thats where it all ended" it seems like there is some crucial information missing from the OP.

You need to check the fluid level by properly engaging the trans. temp check mode. Once in that mode you can pull the drain plug and let any extra drain out. There are write ups on how to do this properly.

OP - What fill port did you pump the fluid back into? You filled through the port on the top of the tranny, right? If that's what you did then like others have mentioned read over and follow the procedure for draining the fluid to the correct level. It takes a bit of patience but it's fairly easy to do. Just know where the exhaust pipes are when you're under there since the truck is running during the fluid level check procedure.

"Ended" as in that's where we stopped. No fact is missing in the post.
.....i Talked to a guy at Toyota last night and he's gonna take a look at it today.
.... The truck is still under warranty and I think the worst is gonna happen I'm gonna have to get a tranny flush just so it's all the same fluid and they get get the right levels.
