Ticks (dog/wood and deer) are bad in southern Maine too.

How recent has that been Mark?
In this area, the last couple years have seen more than ever.
Down on the cape (MA), it has always been bad.

I'd say about 10 years now. When I got my first bird dog back in 2001, I could run him anywhere and never find a tick. Then a few years later they started appearing. Some say the increase is directly related to the increase in the turkey population.

I don't even run my dogs in the woods here. It's not even worth it. I'll drive 2 hours north of I need to.

I refuse to put Frontline, K9 Advantix, etc. on my dogs. It's simply a pesticide as far as I'm concerned. Not putting that on/in my dogs skin/blood.

I've used this product for years and have found very few tricks on my dogs. And, my dogs have never tested positive for Lyme's disease. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting a natural solution.

Yeah, the 1-3 that they were forecasting here yesterday turned into roughly 6-7 in my yard. I was out knocking back and stacking snowbanks with the tractor to make room for tonight's storm, and by the time I'd finished there was a solid 4-5 in the driveway. Then the town went through and plowed and I had a 12" bank at the end of the drive, so I got in the Dodge and plowed the driveway, then stacked that up with the tractor. And then this morning there was another inch or two on the ground, lol.

No snow falling here yet, but the sky has that hazy, glow-y look it gets before a storm.

But, the wood racks, the oil lamps, the fuel tanks on the tractor & plow truck, and the bird feeders are all full, I've got a pot of curry coconut & squash soup bubbling on the wood stove, there's rolls rising on the warming rack, and I've got one of our chickens defrosted and ready to go into the oven, so bring it on!

That soup sounds awesome on a day like today. I have a lemon and garlic chicken soup going now. House smells amazing.

Since we've got the wood-fired cookstove, I can get "snowed in" with panache.:hattip:

Even if we don't have power, I can still roast, bake, broil, boil, etc.

Started snowing here about 20 minutes ago.

Too much snow insulates the tick's from the cold.

:anonymous: Used to pick them off the grass and throw 'em on the hood of our work truck to roast on hot summer days.

Well the lake reached capacity and is now going over the emergency spillway. Uncontrolled flow at this point. Meanwhile the spillway continues to get shredded. We're lucky to have about 5 days of sun before Thursdays storm arrives. They're expecting 5 or so days of rain with that one. Enough!

Talk about snow - just up the hill in the Sierras they are measuring 6 days of snowfall in feet: 8 to 12 feet + in six days. Crazy.
