Currently I'm an owner of a 2012 Subaru Legacy and never have owned a truck. I'm coming up on the warranty end and have wanted to make a big change for a good amount of time now. I decided to go the way of the truck and and been weighing options for about a month now. I'm looking to have a more versatile vehicle and a big draw to trucks has always been the fun factor of off-roading.

Option 1 is get a 2017 Tacoma Off-Road right now.
Option 2 wait for further announcements on the 2018 Tacoma TDR Pro and Off-Road.
Option 3, the completing vehicle for me is the F-150 and the idea of the 2018 version 2 of the ecoboost is extremely appealing despite it being a much larger vehicle it seems as though you get more bang for your buck.

As you might have guessed I'm more stuck on the first two options than the last. I'm getting good pricing no matter what i chose so if there are particular features or other informations that you may think is valuable please feel free to reply.

I would get a 2015 Tacoma. More reliable and proven. Won't have the same bugs as the newer Tacoma's. The new ones have a much upgraded interior though if that's important to you. Wouldn't get a Ford but that's just me. I've heard the Eco boost is a solid engine

If off-roading is in your head, Tacoma all the way. Obviously a Raptor is awesome or even regular F150 can get you way off the asphalt but their size kills them for real, technical off-roading.

That being said, you're absolutely right about bang for the buck. After rebates on similarly equipped trucks, its possible to a get a truck with more room, more power, more towing, and roughly equal MPG.

As for the Ecoboost, they're good to go from what I've seen but I wouldn't rule out the 5.0 V8.
