No test driving before ordering it back in the fall of 2015. If your happy with a turd then good for you, im not. I dont expect 5 second 0-60 times, but 8 seconds is poor for this displacement and power numbers. They did a crap job in the ecu programming department. If you dont want to hear about it then dont open these threads.

Ever heard the term, the squeaky wheel gets the oil?
Well, toyota needs to know what its buyers expect.

I watched this truck in anticipation for almost a year before they showed up a my dealership. When I finally get to test drive it, I was so disappointed and pissed at Toyota. I wanted one but couldn't get passed the wimpy response and stupid transmission.
    I ended up buying a 2013.

I almost pulled the trigger on a new 2015 in August 2015 but decided to wait until the 2016s hit the lot. I ended up test driving several 2016s and they all felt pretty sluggish but thought maybe with time it would open up a bit and that the gas mileage may pay off in exchange for the gutless powertrain but the gas mileage is only marginally better and the truck drives worse if anything from the day I bought it. Combine that with all of the quality control issues I've had...I'll be looking forward to getting some miles and equity into it then dumping it perhaps on the new ranger or back to a Full size.

Similar for me. When i first got it i was easy on it for break in (like many, i ordered it before they were on any lots) so i didnt get to really test its power. Once i did i was terribly disappointed. I thought that the claimed mpg would make it worthwhile, and that i could deal with the low power for better mpg. Well, for the past few months i only get about 16-16.3 mpg on my commute (130 moles a day mixed city and highway). With this mpg i could have gotten something with respectable power and the same mpg.

Sadly, to trade it in would leave me upsidedown by several thousand dollars. Im really banking on someone coming out with a tuner that can improve the off throttle response. It really feels like the initial throttle response is severely limited electronically, and id think that could be fixed.

People like you are really funny. In your world other people are not allowed to be dissatisfied with a product that they expected more from. Again if you don't like reading it then don't open the thread.

No i expect them to do something about it. Like learn to be happy, trade it in for something else. Be a down and out guy about your trucks will get you no where. Looking for ever problem thread someone has to jump in and again point out your being unhappy still doesn't do you any good. I am not familiar with you but as far as Smitty problems we have heard his complaints and we get it. If i tell you 2 and 2 is four then I believe you. You don't have to tell me a 1000 times its four.

Taking the financial hit is simply not an option for some of us. Have to ride it out until financially feasible. My buddy's dually averaged better mpg to the paintball field this weekend lol....boy what a mistake.

You are correct some cant do that and it would hurt me to do it to but I would have to no matter what it took. Why keep your self miserable, maybe the old saying misery loves company is a very truthful statement.

There was just a thread from yesterday or today where the guy was able to afford the huge financial hit and unload his for a car and he was retlentlessly attacked by the fan boys. Keep it and complain or take a loss and get rid of it and get attacked either way, pick your choice.

What sucks is when you had the truck financed. You can't walk back into dealership after finding out you bought the junk model, and return it for the other model, to bad they didn't use Walmart return policies. Cause this piece of junk would have been back quick.

My truck has had issues. Told to make another appointment.12 trips to service center. Some dealerships won't even take the 2017 Tacoma in on a trade. Waiting for a response from Toyota buyback. Some have been lucky and others haven't. But Toyota dealerships have a shit load of Tacomas on the lots, all of them are AT.

I'm purely convinced that most of the issues with the powertrain are software related.. besides the shitty seats and differential whining....really wish my 2nd gen didnnt get totaled

I think a lot of this has to do with the Atkinson cycle engine. I have read a few things from the gear heads here and this truck is pretty much built to deliver most of its power at a higher RMP that most of us are use to. Once I accepted this, I have really had no problem. If you want it to give you some speed, you have to put the peddle down (a bit more than normal) and let it do its thing.
