Yes, very. I understand crumple zones and all that, but I'm still amazed at how well the truck kept us safe.

    Ooof.

Poles hurt. I met one in my wife's car earlier this year. I'd love to know what your actual speed when it happened just to compare crumple zones with and without a plate bumper.

If you go 3G, I promise you it's not as bad as everyone says it is. The 6MT solves the transmission issues people are grumbling about.

My pregnant wife was driving my late model DCSB 2nd gen home from her parents several months ago. She was stopped at a light and was rear ended at 55 mph by a lady texting in a new Chevy Cruze missile. Dry roads, well lite intersection, clear visibility. The Cruze never hit the brake. The Tacoma's bed broke in half, side to side, just above the rear axle. The trailer hitch was pointed forward resulting in significant frame damage but no structural cab damage. On the personal injury side, my wife had some impressive contusions from the seat belts and serious whiplash. There were significant complications on the personal injury side but the Tacoma clearly saved her life.

Sorry to hear but glad you were able to keep collateral damage limited to a pole! Level headed thinking.

Out of curiosity, did ABS click away continuously as you slid or did the wheels lock at some point? (not that anything short of studded tires would have changed the eventual outcome but just curious how it behaved)

If I remember correctly, ABS kicked in for a split second then everything just locked up. The road was just that slick I guess.

Wow, very glad your wife made it out alright. Her ordeal could have gone a lot worse. Texting and driving needs to stop.

On the positive side, I've found a CPO 2015 TRD Sport DCSB in Super White :). Coming out of the situation with a higher optioned truck, with 10k less miles, and breaking even is a positive end in my book!

Thanks for sharing your experience with that. If it is that slick locking is the best thing for it to do usually at that point. Seems it worked like I would hope it would.

    Win! Glad it worked out!

OP it appears you made a wise instinctive decision to sacrifice your prescious truck in order to keep everyone safe. Kudos on you! Good luck getting through it all...

Good call, an pole and a truck are easier to replace than people. I've said it before, and will say it again. The integrity of the cab structure of these trucks is impressive, even when the crumple areas are badly compressed. As you can see below, mine did me well too. Glad you found a decent replacement so quickly.

    Thanks!

Glad to see you made it out. That looks nasty.

Picked up the new-to-me truck yesterday! The truck was a single owner vehicle, that was registered to a ~65 year old gentleman that lives a few blocks away from me. It had OE Bridgestone Dueler's on it that I wanted to replace immediately. I found a different CPO TRD Sport on the dealer lot that had Hankook Dynapro ATM's on it and was able to convince the dealer to swap out the wheels and tires :). After I brought it home, I discovered it had factory nav, which I don't think the dealer was aware of. All-in-all, I'm very satisfied with the outcome. I didn't waste any time getting her a little dirty either:

There are easier ways to upgrade your truck dude.:D

Glad it all worked out in the end and I'll echo the good job of choosing not to squish the folks in the road.
