    Hey guys,

I have a 2005 TRDOR that has one of the variations of the "factory" alarm. When I lock/unlock it, the headlights/fogs come on for about 20 seconds. My version is the one with the red button by the steering column:

My question is this: where is the box that controls the lights, and would it be possible to tap into it so that my reverse floods come on too? My dads newer Volvo does this and it helps a lot more than I thought it would.

    Thanks!

If it's an aftermarket system it could be anywhere, but it's most likely under the dash. What you'll need to do is find it, figure out what model it is, look up a wiring diagram for it and tap into the output that signals the fogs. You'll need to wire in a relay to operate the reverse lights so they don't operate with the fog lights during normal operation.

It's not aftermarket, but if I understand what I've read before here, it was installed by the Toyota distributor (Gulf States or whatever), not Toyota themselves. There are two distributor installed versions I've seen, the one like I have with the red dash button and one with a blue LED or some sorts. All I've seen when I searched for this is a million "what's the red light?" threads and a couple detailing how to disable the horn chirps, but none showing where the box actually is. Since it's not a "real" aftermarket thing but not a true factory bit, I wanted to know if it's even worth digging into the dash for or not since these low quality things are usually very easy to break/non-serviceable.

It's most likely an "aftermarket" system installed by a dealership or for a dealership. It will be fairly obvious if you look under the dash.

The most common one that I've seen is the "Karr" system.

Interesting idea. My Colorado turned on the bed work lights to illuminate around the truck when unlocking, a feature that was really nice and I'd like to do the same to the Tacoma (after swapping a Colorado 3rd brake light).
