my Pro has trouble free for 9650miles except for headlights

One of my headlight had light condensation. I was going to take it out and reseal

But then the seal essentially gave out and it was puddles of light

Few months ago dealer had it in stock and switched it out no problem under warranty .

Now my other one is doing the same thing. I talked to dealer on Friday and they ordered a new light which they will install with the 10k service

    Question:
How can I tell if I am getting same headlights which have issues or a better sealed one ? Service advisor promises that he tests them before was installed on my car. I mean I don't have to keep getting a new headlight every few months

I know few of you have changed them under warranty with same issue I have seen in other threads. But any of you had more than 1?

How does he test them? There a sealed unit they should not leak unless it comes from the bulb not being sealed properly.

The service department's test will involve spraying a light mist of water within 30ft of your truck and telling you that it's a-okay.

    I asked that same question

He said they installed and then washed it
    That was the test

However they are getting them from Toyota
So that's my question if it's perfectly sealed when new can it go bad again ?

    Are seals the issue ?

My gen 1 has vents in the lights so moisture never an issue

    Appreciate it

I know that they manufacture them all at once and keep spare for warranty and customer pay. So if it's a faulty one and no one has looked into them for faults they will ways send out the current stock ones.

    You can't.

Keep swapping them as long as they keep leaking.

I mean, you could take the headlight out and dump it into a tank of water (making sure to keep water out from where the bulb goes) and see if any gets in, but really, I wouldn't bother. You've got at least a few more years of headlight-swapping warranty left - keep doing it until Toyota fixes the problem on their end.

The Headlights leaking is an issue I had not seen before, I do know that many guys were having leaking license plate lights though.

On another note even if your warranty is almost up and you keep having the same issues they will still honor that part.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
Been that way for over 40 years, can't imagione they'd break tradition. The lights are right in the path for spray from the wheels and go through decent amounts of heat cycles so condensation is basically a given.

I am out of warranty at 63K miles.

Dealer trying to see if he can "warranty" the headlight since it was replaced about a year ago... we shall see.

Car is sitting at dealer..while I abuse the rental Taco.

They will warranty it. If not, go to corporate and ask for the new light AND free oil changes/tire rotations for your inconvenience of having to escalate the issue. I mean, not to be a dick (and it shouldn’t matter which one you bought) but you bought the nicest tacoma they offer and keep having this issue. They need to make it right, no questions asked.

My service advisor is fantastic. Takes good care of me. He told me to leave the truck overnight. As an ex Toyota Corp Exec, they usually take care of me well :)

Well there ya go. Sucks that it keeps happening tho. Reminds me of the squeaky, clicky, and eventually stuttering (uptake) clutch master cylinder on my Honda’s. They replaced them all but it took 1/2 a day of labor for the poor tech and was just an inconvience.
