I'm in the same boat as the rest of these guys. Can I see what I'd be getting myself into as well? Not very electrically savvy...

I installed the cool white bed lights on Sunday and thought I'd post some pics and some thoughts.

What a great kit! It's about as straight forward as it gets and there's enough material in the kit to make a few mistakes or deviate from the instructions and still have some wire/zipties/etc left over. This kit works wonders for me since the factory lights are useless with my soft topper up, which is how I run it for 90% of winter. It will be nice seeing back there again.

Total install took me just under 2 hours; it would have been quicker but for the following:
    • I had to uninstall my soft topper (washed it and folded it into the boot - figure about 10 minutes for putting it away)
    • I have a 3rd gen, which don't come with the front header rail in the bed. I bought these parts from the dealer/online (2nd gen parts fit) and installed before hand. For 3rd gen owners, you probably don't need to do this, but if you intend to add the rail later on for any reason, you will want to do this now. I stuck the middle light strip onto the rail this way.
    • Fluid film on the truck made everything a mess. It has had a full winter season to get gross and it absolutely was. Trying to tie a zip tie around a slippery wire and harness isn't easy.

Some install notes/thoughts (@mattgecko - I understand and appreciate your business and your work, if I go too far let me know and I'll edit):
    • I have crappy wire strippers and ate up a few ends that I intended to splice - no big deal as there's plenty of power wire for the recommended install.
    • My crappy wire strippers also did a shit job of crimping one of the splices. I'm kind of glad it did because it was a good reminder to electrical tape everything well as back-up.
    • Drilling into the bed was a bit nerve wracking but the recommended locations are perfect and the install essentially looks factory.
    • I used every bit of the length of the ground wire. Don't cut until you know it's enough length. The self tapping screw for the ground wasn't going to get through the recommended ground location on its own either. I drilled that out with a smaller bit first to give it a start.
    • The recommended path for the power wire makes sense but there's pretty much no way to avoid some proximity to the exhaust. The factory harness on the passenger side is covered in a heat resistant loom. If I was to do it again I would cross over to the drive side at the back of the truck and run along to the front from there.
    • When it was all wired up, the lights turned on and stayed on. The switch did nothing, remote did nothing. This was remedied by restarting the truck. Kit works as intended now.
    • I highly suggest buying the remote along with the light kit. It's nice to be able to turn them on from inside of the bed, control brightness and the strobe effect is kinda cool.

Thanks for posting. It is helpful to have good wire stripper and crimpers, working with poor condition or quality tools can be very frustrating.

Regarding the the heat shielded harness ,I run the wire on the back side so it is protected.

Having the remote and switch, on first start up can be confusing as they are powered separately so you have to both on/off until the light goes off. Also the remote start up command is always flash mode. Not sure why they do that.

Happy to hear you like the lights!
