I had to cut out the Hardline and replace with new to get mine on. Had same issue trying to separate.

If you can get the old lines back on, I'd do that.

I think this happens because the factory has hired the Hulk to torque the flare nuts. He use too much force, flare is being deformed.

The hardline is sold at the Toyota parts counter, prebent and flare nuts installed. Very reasonable cost!

 

Try and get the threaded collar pulled away from the flare, and get the flare in the hole first. That should help you determine how aligned your fittings are.. im sure this is something youve tried already but its what I would continue to do until it starts the threads

 

Hmmm that's an option. Especially since im not going to be at work tomorrow... Lol ill have to check, I don't know how long that section is I need to replace. But, you're saying I can cut out, use a junction/connector and add a new piece and go from there?

 

Ha I did this same time as you and it was a total bitch. The rears are the absolute worst. Mine went on and probably will never be able to be replaced. I'll never forget brake lines on the Toyota Tacoma.

 

Exactly.. Lol which makes me believe its bottoming out or something. I can get the flared in all the way... And the threaded section will not engage.

 

No, there should be a whole line that termiates with a flare at both ends. Remove the section, replace with new section

 

If this issue has taught me anything, it's to buy an extra hardline before doing the lines!

 

@XPOTRPR how far are you from a dealer? Might be worth it to just uber there in the morning and buy the new line.

What part of Chandler are you in?

 

Nice thing about New hardline is you can check that the new brake lines will thread on in advance of getting under the truck.

I would say thats a safe bet.

luckily the wife goes in late tomorrow, so I can get in first thing.

I can say I have a shared strong hatred for these lines..

No I tried a flare nut wrench god
Damn like 60 bucks for 4 of them. Also I left them on the truck to take them on and off. Stripped one so I used vice grips
To get it off and put it back on haha. Says like 10ft lbs so I did like 30 I think.

 

Personally, I would keep at it. There shouldnt be a need for a whole new line unless you ruin it.. but i'm also a mechanic so theres a sense of pride that I hold in finishing things on my own

 

I would look at the cost of the line and compare to how long you have spent working on it. What are the chances of getting after another 45 minutes or so?

There are a TON of part numbers for these lines. Some say for 05-12, some 05-09, but they are all the same base part number...

I'd go get the line, would be worried about fucking up the threads on the new line at this point, since everything else has gone to shit

oh you mean taking them off. Yeah, I had to go buy Line Wrenches too. they definitely suck all around.. I cant seem to get mine back on is the problem.

kinda why I'm on day 3.. lol I need to do this. I'll try it again in the morning. clean em up, line em up, and stick it in!

that's the other thing, gonna be pricey all said and done, already in this more than I wanted. lol

Keep them line wrenches for when we do brake line mod day, we can rent them from you & pay with beer

 

whats funny is I saw all you guys talking about having them sitting on your shelves, holding off on doing them, waiting for a mod day, etc.. So I jumped on the opportunity.. lol
