I have the same truck except in Silver with 18k miles, guess it would probably retail from a dealer for 28-29 range.

yes. yes it would, in ohio where you live. here is a diff story.

also, mine is factory short shift kit, this option costs virtually the same as the automatic. its all numbers, baby.. trust me, my calculator kung fu is strong. the access cab isnt lesser, its just different. i dunno what you guys think youre putting in a 5foot bed, but it aint much. and i didnt want the rear tire of my bike sitting on the tailgate, thats just nonsense. some real men actually want a truck, not a SUV with worse mileage and a funny shape. jesus. 4 door truck.. what will they think of next.

    =D

OP, it's called capitalism my friend. The dealers know what they're doing when they put a price on a vehicle, if they didn't, they wouldn't be around very long. Calling them thieves when it comes to what they will give you for it is immature. They may be thieves in other ways they do business but they are there to sell vehicles and make money.

You need to do your homework, get your truck as close to stock as possible, and then sell it yourself if you want to get what it's actually worth, then sell off any 'mods' separately. You will see it's a pain in the ass dealing with strangers via Craigslist or wherever. When you sell it to a dealer you don't have to put up with tire-kicking people saying this or that and not following thru on their commitments.

It's either one way or the other, there's really no shortcuts to getting what it's worth in your mind. Good luck to you...

OP look at the KBB price, and the lot price for the same vehicle as yours. Meaning same package and mileage and meet it halfway. If you get under 29K as for an extra $20 for a bottle of jack and cut your losses my dude. Private sales can't make as much because of finance price. Off the lot you can get low finance rates. From a bank loan, not so much the same.

Paid 28.5 for my 2015 SR5 DCSB with 15k miles. Gonna be tough to get 29 for yours.

I agree sounds like a few rough decisions and you may have to eat the debt.

Yeah I'm sure I'll end up needing to lose a few bucks, I'm just not one of those that's gonna tolerate the dealer ripoff routine. I figured step one is finding out the legit numbers on this vehicle. And I'm pretty sure 26k isn't it.

So it ain't 26K and probably ain't 30K - so figure out how you're going to reach a buyer and post it at 29K - take the BEST offer and that's what is was worth! this ain't rocket science!

as someone pointed out earlier see what other people are listing them for on cars.com and autotrader.com. if you want to sell it quickly, get a couple of good comps and then price yours $500 less. also be good to call the financial institution that has your loan and let them know you're trying to sell, find out how long it'll take to get the title etc. if they have local branches you may be able to get them to send it to the branch, so whenever someone comes and buys it you can do the transaction right there.

kbb is a guide, and obviously a trade number is going to be softer than a retail number. however keep in mind if you are replacing the vehicle, you may want to trade it in instead so you get the tax credit towards the next car.

nada is a guide that the banks use and therefore typically has a higher value because it's the amount they're willing to loan on.

^^ This. Many people forget about the tax benefit of a trade in vs. a private sale. This alone could make up the difference to say nothing about the frustration of private sales. Especially if you don't have the title in hand.

I think this varies from state to state. I believe in CA if you trade in at the dealer you still pay tax on the full price of the new vehicle regardless of what they give you for the trade-in. ☹️

That's good advice from a couple folks above about the tax advantages if trading...especially on a $25,000 vehicle. Where I live in Pennsylvania that would make a big difference for sure.

Always puzzles me when people get there panties wadded up over a dealership making money. That's the whole point in being in a for-profit buisness, right?

Yet these same people have no qualms about maximizing their own profit margin selling to an individual.

Don't forget that if you itemize taxes you will lose part of the 25% (or whatever bracket you are in) on the sales tax deduction. Might be more if you have state income tax. To the OP, it is a fact that DCs have higher resale values. Just compare the same truck in DC versus access cab. For most people a 4 door is more practical. Even though I do not use my back seat for passenger I like the extra interior room to keep my stuff out of weather and secure. Dealers command a higher resale price because they are equipped to handle the whole transaction in house. Plus they can do the inspections and certify. Access cabs and manuals are a niche market.

I'm surprised you owe $29k for a 2015 truck. Did you buy it used? If so, why are you selling it already? Your best option would be to hold onto it for another year and let the principle drop below the value of the truck. Unless you have a horrible interest rate, it's easy to drop below value, given how much these trucks hold their value.

I think OP meant he would sell the truck for $26k to a military kid instead of giving it to the dealer for that price. At least that is what I hope he meant.

What is up with you guys jumping down the OP persons throat regarding the military comment. You are the ones reading it incorrectly , well done.

Think through it. He thinks the truck is worth 29K, a dealer thinks 26K and he implies that he would rather take a 3K loss and do some military kid a favor vs selling it to the dealer, why is that so hard to comprehend. He actually implies he holds military peeps in high regard. Unreal the comments.

That's how you read it, it could also be read or implied that he can get some military kid to pay the $29k (i.e. sucker them cause they don't know better, etc.), remember he owes $29k on it, I'm sure he cares so much about those serving he'll take the $3k loss as you infer...
