Only have 1k miles on my 17 DC SR5 but I have been impressed by the mpg. I do a 30 mile commute each way every day with lots of hills going about 75mph, its like 20/80 city/hwy.

With no wind I get about 22mpg, tail wind 24-26mpg, head wind around 19 mpg. I don't baby it and shift when needed but at the same time I'm not the most aggressive driver either.

It's amazing the difference in power and mpg I've gotten after the truck got a few hundred miles on it, I know all vehicles are better after some break-in, but this one has been like night and day. The first few days of ownership I couldn't do better than 13mpg and had to use 4th a lot on the hwy, was like ohhhhh nooooo lol. All good now.

Yeah, the bottom photo in my post above is my commute home from work. Commute home has a few more downhills than up hills. I usually see 21ish mpg to work and 22ish mpg home. Once I'm on the interstate here it's 75-80 mph the whole way. Around town I'm in the 15-17 mpg range. I keep forgetting to update the eco app, but it does appear to be getting better as I get more mileage on it. If it stays where it's at, or even drops into the 19's I'm still happy.

Only going to be commuting with this truck for a year or so, then buying a cheap civic or something. Truck will move into play mode and get a small lift, slightly bigger, more aggressive tires, etc... it will then be the family adventure wagon for weekend trips.

Altitude really helps, thin air reduces drag.

Yeah, just drive 50mph on the freeway lol

On multiple road trips I've only seen 21-22mpg @ 65mph. My 4.0 got over 22mpg same conditions and trips

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
    .
After last week ... my mileage has been all over the place with almost 10,000 on the ODO, 10 months old with 3 oil & filter changes, 87 to 92 fuel. Octane does not appear to change my mileage.

I have to do at least 150 miles in a drive to calculate it correctly.

My mileage has been from 13.6 (city driving with a lot of idling) to 25.1 (flat road interstate in 5th and 6th) on a trip.

Hard to believe it can vary that much, but it does depending on driving conditions and driver's habits.

EDIT: My Gen 3 is 4x2 and my last Gen. 2's ... i.e. 4x4 vs 4x2 was about 1.5 to 2.0 less MPG's with a 4x4. So, from my past experiences, a 4x4 costs you about 2 MPG's and bigger tires cost you even more.

So glad I'm not alone in these varied ranges.

But someone above hit the nail on the head. Weekend adventure vehicle.

Kind of impractical for a daily commuter in Seattle. Hills. Traffic.

I've been averaging around 16mpg. That's the same fuel mileage my fathers 17 year old bigger heavier F150, with a check engine light on and 215,000 miles- used to get.

I pulled a 3 rail motorcycle trailer about a month ago, with two 525lb motorcycles on it.... all highway 12mpg.

this past summer i got with 2016 taco sr5 27 to 28 mpg running at 60 mph on mostly flat freeway. i can not get that in winter weather. so i think temp has a factor in mpg also.
