    is there anyway to get rid of the pinging rattling sound w/o wasting money on higher octane fuel?

    its more like a faint/muted rattle thats consistent while driving. like a ball peen hammer hitting inside a wooden box thats been muted.

    Has anybody tried disconnecting the ecu fuse or battery for a minute or so to see if that helps? Sorry I didn't read every post in this shit storm as I have to work in the morning. o_O

    My 05 with ~130k doesn't ever ping, but I use Chevron 91 on a regular basis. :notsure:

    What about a good ole fashioned spirited rip down the highway? Gotta clean the pipes out every once in a while in more ways than one. :devil:

    Does it go away with hi octane? Then retarding the timing may help. But I don't know how to do that on these electronically controlled engines.

    I believe i know that pinging sound as well. It is normal. But like everyone has stated, when you put better quality gas, the engine is surely to run smoother. Chevron is my go to place.

    Ping ecu reflash from the dealership. Had to be covered in this thread.

    Buy shit gas, get shit performance. Plain and simple.
