    Hopefully they can get it low enough to make some emergency repairs to the overflow area before the next wave of rain.

    Isaw a video from a couple days ago, where they removed some trees from the land below the overflow. I think that was a mistake. It just allows the ground to erode faster. But I can see why they did, because the power line towers are at the bottom of the hill side.

    That may be true, but skin is also considered an organ. The largest on a dog.

    I know many who use these and continually find embedded ticks. Some have even contracted Lyme's Disease. It's a choice for everyone. My chosen system has worked well for me.

    :rofl::rofl:

    I shoveled close to 10" just before 9:00 last night (had to watch TWD). Seems like close to 10" out there now. Hard to tell with it all blowing around.

    Seems like it's moving out faster than planned. Local weather just said they don't expect much more accumulation after 9:00am (here in southern Maine).

    It'll be a fun cleanup!

    Give it a try. I've converted many friends & co-workers to this spray and they all love it. It's a little more work as you need to apply often if the dog(s) will be exposed to tick vegetation frequently. I don't have ticks in/near my yard, so I only need to apply when we go for walks (runs) in the fields/woods. It smells great too!

    They do make an unscented version as well.

    According to Wikipedia
    On October 17, 2005 three environmental groups filed a motion with the federal government urging federal officials to require that the dam’s emergency spillway be armored with concrete, rather than remain as an earthen spillway. Federal and state officials said it was unnecessary and concerns were overblown.

    The San Jose Mercury News has an answer: both are to blame, for ignoring a warning raised in 2005 that the emergency spillway could fail in heavy rain.

    The paper reported Monday:

    Three environmental groups — the Friends of the River, the Sierra Club and the South Yuba Citizens League — filed a motion with the federal government on Oct. 17, 2005, as part of Oroville Dam’s relicensing process, urging federal officials to require that the dam’s emergency spillway be armored with concrete, rather than remain as an earthen hillside.

    The groups filed the motion with FERC, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. They said that the dam, built and owned by the state of California, and finished in 1968, did not meet modern safety standards because in the event of extreme rain and flooding, fast-rising water would overwhelm the main concrete spillway, then flow down the emergency spillway, and that could cause heavy erosion that would create flooding for communities downstream, but also could cause a failure, known as “loss of crest control.”

    FERC rejected that request, however, after the state Department of Water Resources, and the water agencies that would likely have had to pay the bill for the upgrades, said they were unnecessary.

    No power here, but I've got the driveway cleared, and all of my shoveling done.

    And I can even enjoy a cold beer now that it's done, courtesy of the fresh snow drift on my water storage tanks beside our sunroom.
