I was told the hoods have the same retail price?

Just called - sport hood retail = $514.10

I got mine back from Toyota body shop today, manager was super nice, he went the extra mile to replace all the stickers and little bumpers underneath the hood. Adhesive reapplied and repainted. It should have been done like this at the factory in the first place.

Yes both metal hoods are the same price, but the scooped hood requires a separate plastic trim piece where the hood scoop is. It is around $70. I would totally pay this, hell I would even pay significantly more than this to upgrade so this issue is resolved going forward, but in my case Toyota would only order parts and pay to repair the hood as specified on the vehicle from the factory.

When I am in the drying section of the carwash or driving down the interstate, I see the middle of the hood make a rolling motion. I haven't approached the dealer about this.

Somebody here got their truck lemoned for this problem. Toyota still has not released an official fix (TSB) to my knowledge. Unreal.

I got the "normal characteristic" line from the dealer on my waving hood and glue weld pops on my third gen.

Funny- my Silverado has no fit and finish issues like that... 4,500 miles in under a month and fit and finish just perfect.

I had it on my 17. Dealer got instructions from Toyota and fixed it without fuss.

Dealer likely outsourced to body shop. Have not seen any official tsb or tech tip from Toyota on this

Does anything else on this truck use this adhesive? Someone mentioned the tailgate.

Yep. Dealer has a good body shop as part of its facility and they did the work. They called some Toyota tech line to confirm the type of adhesive as they knew if they used something that wasn't right it might damage the hood. I would recommend going to a dealer that has a good body shop so they don't send it off somewhere.

Give the Silverado some time and see how well the fit and finish remains.

I have not seen any flex in my Sport hood yet after 13 months. And I have been watching for it.

I've been a lot of older Chevrolet trucks most of them are in really good shape. Conversely, I've been a lot of Toyota trucks and Toyota vehicles that were older and I see the same.

Point is out of the gate the Chevy is really assembled well. 7000 miles and I have zero issues. It's actually a fantastic truck.

The sports don't have the issue because of the hood scoop.

I fixed my vibrations with dampening material posted earlier in this thread. If anyone is interested I am selling the dampening material with more than 60% left with the cartridge applicator and extra mixing nozzles.
It should be more than enough to fix your hood (I went over all over my hood twice just to be safe)
Total paid was around $90 from Amazon I will sell for $45 shipped. PM me if interested

I no longer own the truck but my 2014 had the bonding between the skeleton and the sheet metal of the hood release. It would flex terribly at any speed above 30 KM/HR. When I contacted my local Toyota dealer, they arranged for me to take it to a body shop and have the hood repaired. They would not attempt the repair in house, as they did not have a body shop. The hood looked great and was absolutely trouble free after the repair.
