Add a leaf vs. Dakar leaf pack

About to pull the trigger on a 3" lift, definitely going with toytec adj. coilovers in the front just not sure about the rear. Trying to decide whether or not to just order the ultimate lift from toytec with add a leafs or spend a few extra bucks and get all new packs, probably the Dakar ($339.00/pair TRDparts4U.com) Just wondering if anyone got the ultimate lift and regret not getting new packs. Don't pull or haul anything crazy, really just interested in the new packs because you get 2.75" vs. 2" with the add a leafs. Wanna do it right the first time for once so money is actually not gonna be the deciding factor for once.... Any thoughts or 2 cents worth would be greatly appreciated. if moneys not holdin ya back then definitly go with the dakars man. i wish i woulda done it right the first time, its cheaper that way

 

I ended up pulling the stock leaf pack and swapping it for a 1.5" leaf pack from All Pro. Been happy ever since; (the truck may appear to, but it has no "taco-lean" or "cali-lean")



I would have gone Dakars, but witnessed myself how much they sag, and decided F THAT!

 

Welcome to TW. Your choice in front is a dandy. In the back, your needs/wants matter most. If you are looking for a a higher lift + load carrying boost in back, you may consider getting Toyota to do the rear leaf TSB for free then add a $75 leaf. That will put you right up n the same height range.

Before you pull the trigger, may I suggest you do some research. Use the search button, click around in the suspension forum, and find out the pros and cons of each.

Hmmm.. just checked and you are right. They must have pulled the 1.5" from production. I was probably the only one that ordered it! HAHA

 

5100s should be fine and extended brake lines if you go the 3" leafpack. The 1.5" leafpack you can get away with your stock lines... but I replaced mine anyway. And the 3" leafpacks were the same price anyway. 1.5" of difference isn't much. Youll be happy with the 3"

 

The add a leaf that accompaines the tsb supposedly gives you an 1.5", on top of the 1" to 1 1/2" from the tsb and i guess you end up with 2.5 to 3". Same as the Dakar packs. So I guess that would be the cheaper route. Are the stock bily's they upgrade you to with the tsb long enough for all that? Or do you need 5100's? I guess you start splitting hairs with the heigth issue, and it all depends on what you haul to ultimately make the decision.

 

I'm wanting to run 255/85/16 so I wanna get it up there pretty good. I started a thread in the tires and wheels section trying to get input on this size on a 2nd generation. Haven't found anybody running em' on the 2nd's. Any response to it would be awesome.

 

Are you saying the Dakar packs sagged?

Adding a leaf to an already saggy pack is like putting a band aid on it. Buy the dakars, you will be happy.

I have an AAL on an old TSB leaf pack. They still sagged and rode horribly stiff (Toytec single leaf AAL).

Couldn't handle the awful ride and put in Dakar's. Definitely no sag, hold my trailer weight great and ride awesome. Do it right and go Dakar's.

 

i have the dakars and 255/85s on a second gen the dakars ride stiff, but i also dont have much weight in my bed.
