Since I bought my 99 Tacoma V6 SR5 4xdig my cruise control has not worked. Well after hours of searching and reading troubleshooting steps I got down to checking the clock spring. Well unbeknownst to me the CC stalk switch was already disconnected so I'm guessing the previous owner discovered the same thing I did. Which is it's just cruise control I don't want to spend a bunch of money to fix it. I was discussing this with a friend of mine and he said he once had the same issue on his dodge 2500 Cummins. He was having the same issues as me no horn, no cc, but air bag didn't seem to have any issues which I've head is possible due to the air bag cable being thicker, I can't confirm that though. He found a simple fix just by buying a few push button switches from radio shack and a little wire he more or less made a push button cc installed on his dash. Now I don't want to do that so I sat in my truck for about an hour last night debating on what I was going to do. I found a neat looking way to mount the factory cc stalk switch on the column side of the clock spring. I checked the plug going into the column side of the clock spring and it is getting power to that point. My thinking is (and I could be wrong electrical isn't my favorite) just splice into the wires and mount the factory stalk sw on the column side. My issue is I'm not real sure which wires going into the clock spring control what. I have searched til my eyes hurt on some sort of diagram or schematic and can't find schnit! Anyone?

I have a mild vibration/wiggle roughly between 60-70mph, but it's kind of intermittent and not at any particular speed. I've had FE alignment, tires have about 500 miles on them but I rotated them for satisfaction. Nothing appears to be lose or wore slap out. I'm 99% sure it's in the front somewhere but I eliminated the possibility of it being the drive shaft anyways. Any suggestions on what it could be?

Once I get these problems straight I plan to do the turn signal mod I found on here. I want to keep my truck as factory as possible but I don't just want two non function turn signals in my front bumper. Has anyone found fog lights that fit where the original turn signals are in the front bumper.

Use the led switchback mod for your lights.
Attached pdf of wiring diagram. it doesn't show the clock spring per say. but its the wires between switch and ECU.

I saw the led switchback but I have the square amber colored turn signals.

The ones down in the bumper right. ( or below) The mod turns that into a turn signal/driving light. There bright with the mod.

I'm sure someone has done it. Just have to search for it.

Update: I hooked the cc wires behind the clock spring directly to the stalk switch (by-passing the clock spring). Wish I could say that solved my problem but it didn't, however I did see some improvement. After by-passing the clock spring I can now get the cruise indicator light on the cluster to come on but that's about all I got. I'm still not 100% I hooked it up right but I'll share how I did and hopefully someone has some knowledge for me.

Behind the clock spring just like the PDF mechanicjon sent me there is a grn/y wire and grn/blk wire. On the front side of the clock spring coming from the switch you have three wires red/grn/black. I hooked it up to different ways and had two different results. The first time I tried grn/y to red and grn/blk to grn. The black wire coming off the switch I ran to ground. The second time I just swapped the other two wires around and kept black to ground. The first result was I was able to get the cruise to turn on by the switch but the cruise wouldn't function at all. Second go around with the wires swapped the light would come on and started flashing intermittently with no function cruise control. Where do I go from here.

The wires are intermittent touch only. Not a constant connection on the set resume ect.

Can you dumb that down for me? I suck at automotive electronics or any electronics for that matter but I'm determined to fix this myself with a little help.

To "set" , "cancel" or "resume" the cruise control you don't connect the wires you just touch them together for a second. There's resistors inside the switch also, see attached picture . The CC on switch is connected to ground the whole time CC is on.
Without these resistor values being seen by CC computer it won't work.

The green and black to ground should turn on the CC then the green and yellow has to see those resistor values to work. the other wire is just a ground to the switch

The short story of it, you can't test like you doing it. You'd need three resistors of the correct values

Seriously man lol I'm pretty comfortable with light to moderate mechanic work but my knees buckle when it comes to electrical.

Ok my victory is not shot but not as satisfying as I'd like lol.

I ended up successfully bypassing the clock spring. But I still have some minor issues but I have cruise control none the less.

I connnected the grn /yw wire behind the clock spring to the red wire on the switch. I connected the grn/blk wire from behind the clock spring and the green, black wire from the switch together and grounded them. This allows me to turn the cruise on, set, coast, and resume accel. In fact the only thing I can't do is actually turn the cruise off unless I disconnect the ground. I will post some pictures after I get the switch installed in a new place and the wires connected properly theyre literally just twisted together and switch is hanging by the steering column. I would like to find out why exactly I can't get the cruise to turn off and if the green CRUISE light on the lower left hand side of the gauge cluster is the only light associated with the cruise function. Seems like I remember seeing something on here about a green CRUISE SET light but I could have that mixed up with another forum when I was researching CC troubleshooting. Either way after troubleshooting this when I could in my spare time and several hours of searching the internet for suggestions it is a relief to have found a way to fix something on my own and not cost me an arm and a leg. Thanks for the help. Pictures to follow in couple days or five lol.
