Been creeping this thread for a while. You post a ton of info which is awesome for those like me.

Hoping to file my own query with your Bank of Wisdom and Guidance.

The L-track you went crazy with.
    How flexible is it?
I'm thinking of using it as a backing plate, on the interior roof of my ARE MX shell, for my soon to be installed Yakima tracks.
Haven't dealt with it personally but obviously you have.

    Thanks
    Welcome

The L track is extruded aluminum. Extremely rigid and durable. Easy to cut and drill too. It would be great for your intended purpose. I've thought of retrofitting my shell interior like that, but not enough time. I recently cut a 4' piece into 4 x12' to lay down some more. Hope to do that quite soon.

    Awesomeness! :)

Fits and stays dry. Can't take credit for the idea as my wife is the one who slipped it in there.

I'll probably stick a roll in a Ziploc bag, but it'll be there when needed.

There are lots of uses for those cubbies. My drivers side has a plug recepticle for my camper power. I'm surprised they got rid of them as far as function goes. Damned robots.

All the talk of cubbies has made me want to cut some holes in my bedsides and install them on the outside of the truck. Get some little weather proof doors and it would be awesome! :D

    Stardate 71161.10 Captian's log

Ship has been docked for 10 days for minor maintenance and ships upgrades.

    • Main observation deck received new genuine starfleet issue EPDM wiper blade inserts, part no. B525 pass, and G550 driver.

The cargo deck received the following upgrades:
    • New L-Track installed in forward bulkhead, 2 x 12" and 1 x 6"
    • New L-Track installed in main deck flooring 1 x 12" and 1 x 6"
    • Old L-Track relocated to wheel well hump 1 x 2"

In the air/hydroponics bay, the new On-Board Water (OBW) system was assembled from Vulcan, Klingon and Stafleet components. Once the system was activated, six year old Ensign K, began to randomly water all plants until the water source was exhausted.

Installation of OBW tank on cargo deck will happen over the next few days. Ensign K remarked that with the new OBW system, water could be dispensed in locations all over the ship!

    Oh shit! warp core breach!

Most Super Awesome Tool (MSAT) :stirthepot:

I decided to one-up myself while working on the Tacoma. I wanted to bolt up some new L-Track on forward section of the bed to optimally secure my cargo since I've changed how I load the truck. In the past when doing this, I've used rivet nuts for plastics for that part of the composite bed. To date, I've never had one fail and they have held a lot of weight. However I wanted to try and do one better. I wanted to use fender washers and nylock nuts like I've done for the bed floor installs.

Nylock nuts epoxied to fender washers vs. Rivet nut for plastics

To make this work, I first glued the washers to the Nylock nuts. I used household superglue or 2-part epoxy. Both worked equally well.

Then I built the most super awesome tool (MSAT) You can't go buy the MSAT, you have to assemble it in your lab. I mean garage. Aluminum flat bar 3/4" x 1/8" x 36", duct tape, and 11 mm wrench.

    Assembled glued fastener, Built
MSAT, ratchet with extension and Phillips bit

Open end of box wrench and miracle product "duck tape" holds fastener to wrench. :)

Using the 36" long handled MSAT with taped on fastener, and reaching from the side of the truck, I was able to easily reach between the bed and cab and find the protruding 1/4"-20 x 3/4" flat head machine screws. Because I have a shell, I had to reach through the window to access the bed with the 1/4" drive ratchet and extension. All in all, it was a simple job of tightening everything up. The tool allowed me to do the job solo. :bananadance:

It worked better than I could have possibly imaged. The aluminum bar is rigid and long and great for helping torque faster, yet flexible enough to bend into place.

MSAT also works great for reaching in between gas tank and composite bed floor. :)

Example: my old L-Track bits bolted to forward section of composite bed.

I want to see what your are doing for the mud flaps. I bought a couple of tractor trailer mudflaps the other day and have cut them to size. Now I need to bolt them in. I'm thinking the factory hardware will work, but I'll need to add one screw where there is a support for the inner fender.

BTW, I did the TP Cubbie Mod this weekend. I figure I'm ready for anything at this point.

    :hattip:

Awesome! Yeah every rig should have some. :D

I've done one test fit of the 18-wheeler mud flap, and I"ll be doing essentially the same thing, except I'll drill 2-3 holes in the BFF steel bumper, and use standard hardware to attach, might to rivet nuts too.
If I am super lucky I'll get it done before Friday, if not then next week at the soonest. :turtleride:

That is awesome. So much utility--I love it! :)

BRB going to go grab jigsaw, angle grinder, blue tape. :anonymous: I mean look at bedsides with tape measure! :D

Seriously though, external compartments like that would be extremely useful for overlanding / camping. I have some propane adapters, hoses, shower stuff that I'd love to stash on the outside, air hose too.

Hell why not cut some square holes in the bumper wings?!? :D

    Thanks!!!

I'm thinking you would need to fabricate a box to fit the contours of the fender.
