Hopefully I'll get the drivers side taced on soon. Then I still need to make a few more pieces like the top plate and some support pieces but it's starting to come together.

What do you feel is an adequate gauge/thickness of steel used to build the bumpers? I like the idea of 3/16", still has some good strength and not too heavy.

Keep up the good work man!

3/16" is plenty strong. My front is made of 3/16" and it hasn't had any issues.

Thanks man there's a lot of work left to do, I just needed to make some progress. It's been sitting unfinished for too long. I'm glad the weather is finally starting to get better.

How much weight difference are we talking about? Is anyone have one on here thicker than 3/16"? Just curious

Well it depends what design exactly your talking about and how thick you go. Let just say my front weights 100lbs I don't think it is that heavy but just as an example. If I made it out of 1/4" it would be 1/3 heavier, so 133lbs.
But honestly like I said I rear ended someone and caved the back of there Pacifica in and all it did was scratch the paint on my bumper. It didn't even tweek it a little. If you have a well triangulated design I think 3/16 is good for anything accept maybe rock crawling. My rear I am making out of 1/4 just for extra weight in the back end during the winter.

Are you going paint the rear bumper or get it power coated? Seeing it is the rear it gets rocks sand gravel hitting it all the time.

I haven't decided on how I'm going to paint it yet. Probably will powder coat it. I know a guy that works at s local powder coater that will get me a good deal.

The only problem I have with powder coating it is that if I want to add on to it later it isn't as simple.

I hope you are including holes in the bottom so when you hose it down the crapp will have a way to get out!

It shouldn't have that problem, the back piece is a tube and the sides are pretty open at the bottom.

Been following the progress. The bumper looks good! Mine should turn out looking the same I hope.

Do you think that the receiver hitch is as strong As the factory Reese hitch ?
