As it was stated earlier in the thread: for every one Icon failure there are hundreds (if not thousands) without.

They'd be foolish to do a redesign in response to a failure rate of less than 1%. I'd be willing to bet their failure rate is indeed MUCH lower than 1%.

Thanks for this Chris, at first reading this thread I was concerned at how thick my top hats are, but I feel much better about having Kings having seen this comparison. I don't want to be that guy, but I am def going to be scouting my buddies Icon coils to hopefully point out if they have the old school top hats. I think their new design is still too slim. This def gives me some real ammo for the future when when I get in more "coilover wars."

I have heard the same thing from other Icon drivers by me, if you get the kings with #650 springs they will feel just right. If you get a full plate bumper though, then they will get a little squishy.

Im curious as I havnt researched this topic too much with the other competitors...has any other companies had this failing with this sort of history? After seeing the thicknesses of the top hats of King compared to Icon, I can see where Icon runs a risk with a thinner top hat approach. I would think coilovers breaking like this should NOT happen at all considering there are seals and stuff that should go before the exterior of the component itself I would think. Atleast from a racing approach, I would be pissed if my coilover died during a race and Icon said "sorry, we don't have enough need to engineer our coilovers to be better than they already are."

@fatfurious2, def check your top hat of your Icons and see if they are the "older full cup top hat" style. Would Icon send out replacements to Icon owners that have the older top hat design? I think it would be bullshit if they were to have the reactive approach of having their loyal customers destroy their coilover buckets before being warranted a much needed re-designed top hat. With that being said, those coilover spacers on top of the coil buckets are pure genius!

That's just impressive. I'm proud of you lol. I'm also impressed the tire didn't blow up at that kind of impact (maybe it did but it's hard to tell in the picture).

Not really sure Toyota needs to address an issue that only one manufacture has.

OP, where'd you order your King's from? Did you go with the OEM replacements?

I saw someone asked about King's and ADS earlier. I priced them out today since I plan on getting Kings but just recently read about ADS. From the site I used, ADS fronts are about 150 more, and the rears are about 100 more (give or take $10). Although, King's often have small discounts from MSRP on multiple websites, so that $250 or so is more if you shop around for Kings.
