Hi anyone selling the removal tool? Will be doing this soon, would like to have it on hand for when the stars align over the next few weeks.

 

I've got a 2006, so out of warranty. Needle bearing replacement looks to be beyond my mechanical abilities, so I talked to both of my area toyota dealers. Odd, both seemed skeptical that the needle bearing could be the problem. My symptoms are the classic ones as described here (cyclical vibration/noise somewhere around 25-35 mph that disappears in 4WD). Really frustrated. Both say they've never know one to go bad. Referred both to the TSB. Quoting me $620 for the TSB service (if I insisted on it), but really questioned that that would be the fix. Sounds like they'd rather try to run up the cost blaming something else than fixing my problem.

 

Finished the install today. Left the bushing sticking slightly out and the seal sticking slightly out. So far no leaks.

Very easy straigh forward job.drivers side Cv was stuck again.had to use the homemade removal tool lol

 

Don't mess with the tsb. Get the bushing from ECGS, take it to a local shop and have them install. I paid $60 ish for the part and $100 ish for the install. Problem solved.

 

i'm having the tsb done, BUT i'm still under warranty... so its free. i'm sort of expecting it NOT to work, it'll just buy me a little time until the weather gets nicer

 

Mine last led 4000 miles from the tsb. Just did the ecgs swap this weekend and it's back to gone and even quieter than with the tsb.

 

If the TSB is free... by all means. Beaglesridefree said they quoted him $620 - that's crazy talk.

 

i completely agree. i'll end up paying $60 for the ecgs bushing, already made my own removal tool .... over $600 is insane

Well the damn thing still leaks oil !!! So frustrated at this point

 

You an after market CV in? Only other reason other than damaged seal is that you didn't drive the seal flush with housing.

 

Anthony, I have the same truck you do and did the ECGS fix in the front diff with my bro. We drove the ECGS Bushing flush with the inner ring(housing). Here is what mine looked like:

Other than that, make sure your using new seals and they are seated correctly.

My problem is the seal.. Everyone is telling me it goes a different way. Half have said glove side goes into diff...other half have said glove side goes out toward cv axle

 

I have not done mine yet,but the glove side is almost always outside on most everything else.Best too look at the one in the truck BEFORE removing it too see how it fit's.

Can the bearing be swapped without doing the seal? Not against doing the seal but don't want to create a leak by swapping if I don't have to. Very curious on which side goes in per previous member question too.

 

The side showing there is the outboard side. You should see a small metal spring on the other side on the inside lip.
