I definitely want to do the back wall and all four doors to start off. Not quite sure I want to venture off into doing the floor just yet... the thought of taking everything out scares the crap out of me. Might do the roof, if it's not too difficult to rip the liner off without messing it/anything up.

About the back wall... so it's not a good idea to cover it all up?! From what I've seen as far as other peeps doing it, seems like they cover the entire thing...

 

Morning all! Power came back on last night so I was able to shower and shave this AM, but now I'm back at work

And they're forecasting this for tomorrow, which means I'm shoveling my roof off this weekend, lol.

You're talking about the mat right? Then no it is not necessary. The mat is only to stop the panels from resonating and to stop them from adding noise. The Ensolite is to reduce the actual noise from the outside from entering the cab. If you're going to add audio then yes you want to do it only in strips. If you're not going to change your audio then you can cover the entire wall if you want to but it's not necessary. However the floor is much flatter and by doing the tap testing I could tell I needed more of it. That is the reason I did the full coverage even though there is a product from the factory

I'm also running an old snapper snowblower w/commercial chassis from the early 90s. Not sure how old since I bought it off CL not working for cheap. Just needed a new carb which was like $35 off flea bay. Works like a champ. All metal gear box, worm gear style adjusters for the chute instead of those silly cables all the new ones have, and grease zerks all over the place.

 

Morning all! The snow banks on the roads in somerville are around 3 feet tall. I've found another reason to love the truck though. Most of my neighbors have to really clear their spots, while I can just clear off the truck and throw it in 4x4. That way no one steals my spot because no one can get into it! Although backing into a tight spot at night in 4x4 during the storm this weekend was a little tricky...

 

I think they're friction disc, actually. At least the mid 70s one we used to have and my newer one both are. Super simple design, pretty unusual to have a failure and even if you do, you can easily and inexpensively replace it.

My mom has a 7-8 year old Ariens with a Subaru engine on it. I have a 5-6 year old one of the same size/model with a Briggs. Both are great machines. I'd never buy anything but an Ariens.

Gotcha. I think I'm going to do the entire back wall when I get to it, and add the mat as well. Might as well I guess since it looks like there is no harm in that. Now I'm just waiting to hear back from the guy at RAAMmat, about ordering, and then going to put an order in and actually do the work once it gets warmer out.

 

Are you going to do anything to your stereo system? Meaning like adding a subwoofer? If not then you're fine, if you think that you might than listen to Marv and only do the strips. Too many people make the mistake and add too much and then the box doesn't sit right and have to add spacers to the seats to make them fit etc.

 

Was this before, or after the swamp water got in the truck?

 

Naw, don't think I'll be doing anything to the audio. Maybe eventually just some better speakers than the OEM ones, but that would be about it. And that's still up in the air, depending on how "good" the sound deadening comes out, meaning, I might not even need to do anything to the audio.

It's cool. I like the snow, and I love a good storm. The only part I'm not crazy about is having to shovel off the roof. That part sucks, lol.

 

I want to RAAM mat the FJ this summer. Having an all rubber interior certainly doesn't help the road noise

Rob, how long did it take you to do all this?

 

Mine has an OK pitch, but it's got multiple angles and it's roofed with shingles so the snow doesn't shed, and it's well-insulated so the snow doesn't melt. I've got about 3 feet up there right now, probably.
When I build, I'm having a steel roof with at least a 9/12 pitch, the southern face will be glass-faced solar panels, and the doors will be on the gable ends of the house.

 

I would b e cautious about upgrading the OEM speakers only. I did that when I had my Tacoma, and needed to install an amplifier to properly drive them. The paper cones on the stock speakers do not need much power at all to get them moving, and when you upgrade to a higher end component speaker, you are going to need to amplify them to get your low end back. I changed out the head unit and that still wasn't enough.
