I am very happy with my Trail premium , you get the moon roof , power passenger seat , running boards , heated seats . I actually traded my 1794 tundra which was a great truck but needed diesel power and toyota had nothing to offer so instead of taking a lower trade amount on the new GMC I used it as my trade on the 4runner .
My TRD pro 4r was a great truck ... I really enjoy the trail premium is a awesome truck , I hope the 2018 is going to be just as tough but I heard rumors that japan is going to have a different 4runner than what toyota is going to give the USA market .

i'd say if you need the option for a 3rd row, limited. if you want more off-road prowess, pro.

Can always add third row to any of the other models, just won't be able to get the curtain airbags that extend to the rear.

you sure? 3rd isn't standard and comes only in a package that the pro doesn't offer

Yep. @JDEMELLO added 3rd row to his Trail edition. Has a write up somewhere if I can dig it up.

Yup, we have a TRD off road premium. We did add the 3rd row to it. I wouldn't say it's an easy swap but it is doable. Most of the stuff bolts right in. It really depends on how in dept you want to get with it. I didn't replace the 2nd row with the donor car seats, that might have made it a little cleaner install. I'm happy with the results. My 2nd row still reclines back and is easy to access the 3rd row with it's fold down option. The seats them selves bolt right to the floor.
You have to drill one hole out on each side but the threads are there. I know that sounds crazy but they are. The one thread set that isn't there is the seat belt pretension holder up high. The hole is there but no threads. I cured it by welding a metric nut to the end of a small metal rod and fishing it into place through another hole then carefully tightening it down. It worked fine and the seat belts work as if it was factory. I didn't replace the rear plastic because it would have require a complete swap on the donor car plus the 2nd row seats. I haven't done it yet (time) but I'm going to have my 3rd row redone to match my other seats. They are fabric now and I have the premium with fake leather and red stitching. When I have that done I'll have the carpet fixed and make it all look factory. I was trying to decide what to do with the odd space on both sides of the seat.I didn't want to swap the other parts because it just makes that space an air void and I thought at the minum it would be a good junk collector? I think I will finish that area off though with some sort of storage and have it all recovered.

I may be selling the 4runner this year if anyone is interested. It's very well built 2015 with low 20k mileage currently.

I don't think you can add the 3rd row to the Trail??? My wife has a trail premium and it doesn't have any place to mount the seat that Im aware.

It's possible, but not with out heavy modifications to the interior. It's not something that snaps right in. It requires removing and replacing a significant amount of hardware.
