I never said AT or MT or superior.

I prefer MT. Traffic doesn't bother me. I drive in the worst traffic in the world on the 405 daily. I enjoy it. If I broke my foot, I would use UBER.

I use my MT in Mammoth and Big Bear in tons of snow no issues. I have been towing with a MT for a long time, no issues. You know 18 wheelers tow with MT as well right?

18 wheeler tranny is not a Taco. They are built for towing. I drove a MT in the hills or WV where most people are scared to drive a MT. UBER would be impractical for me. Only choice would be renting a car. MTs are fun to drive the fun part just does not over come the downsides.

There are NO downsides in MY LIFE to drive my MT. I don't know anyone that is "scared to drive MT in the hills."

I am not FORCING you to buy AT. Your money buy whatever you want.

Stop raining on my MT choice, and making up alternative facts.

I live in HILLY area. I live in TRAFFIC. I TOW. I am a grown up and don't break my limbs daily.

MT TACOMA IS WHAT I NEED.

Hills, Snow, and Towing were never an issue for me in any of my Manuals, in fact I much prefer a Manual in Snow and Ice.

That's a false statement. The truck isn't lacking power, it just has less power than what you are used to. A manual transmission allows you to get higher RPMs within the power band, but it doesn't alleviate the true difference in power. The power might be a little low for it to be deemed a "perfect truck", but it's by no means under powered to the point a manual alleviates that concern.

It's interesting that none of the publications mention much about the transmission hunting or feeling low power. Some say its great even. Not a raptor but good from what I recall. It wasn't until I test drove it and then coming here to see that I wasn't alone with regards to all the complaints with gear hunting/power delivery.

    This is an excellent point.

My dad, who was a farmer, over-the-road trucker, and runs a grader and dump truck, says "the WORST thing you can do to a motor is bog it down." I have seen first hand that there is merit to this. So while I like the fact a manual can run the way I want it too, I need to remember that the engine has its limits too.

I think anyone that knows what they're doing with a MT would prefer to drive it in snow. I feel a lot more connected to what I'm doing, what the powertrain is doing, and what the tires are doing.

This thread is kinda like politics. A lot of people don't want the "hassle" of having to shift themselves, we aren't changing their minds. They can have their autos. The wait time to get a new MT is long enough already because they build so few of them.

For what it's worth, I also think a lot of Tacoma owners wanted a MT, but got talked into the AT by the salesman or put off by the long lead time to order one. If they were on the fence already, the salesman yammering in your ear about the fuel economy, resale value, and other nonsense might have been enough to turn them off. Happened to my dad, he went in wanting a MT, walked out with an auto before I could talk some sense into him. Oh well.

I just got on with the Seattle PD and I'll be driving from Lakewood to Seattle everyday. I am debating right now about getting either a MT or AT and the benefits of both are insane. You are familiar with the area and are on 405 often, do you think the MT will be too annoying in the area? Traffic, hills ETC

It doesn't matter which transmission you get, the traffic will be annoying either way. lol

Buy the transmission for how you want to drive when you aren't sitting in traffic. Most of the time, sitting on I-5 you'll either be in a low gear just rolling at 35 or you'll be shifting like normal. I drive down I-5, 405, and 167 all the time. I have an auto and really don't feel the need for a manual. The hills in Seattle aren't that bad if you know how to drive a manual. In short, if you like a manual, you won't care about driving with hills or traffic.

    PD= real men
    Real men = MT

    Is sex annoying?

    MT is not "annoying"

It is a pleasure reserved for higher intellectuals

Get the MT you will never regret it

I didn't mean to insinuate that it's under powered. I meant to say what you're saying. That is is decidedly less powerful than the full size truck that I used to drive. I think you misunderstood what I said about getting the M/T to make up for the loss in power. I know that the M/T and auto have the same power, and that power is less than what I had in my full size truck. What I meant is that I bought the M/T because I prefer is and it is more fun to me than the AT.

The whole reason I traded my RAM for my Taco is for the look and MT in the Taco. I love it way more than I ever liked my RAM. I was just stating that it was worth it to me to give up the power of a full size truck to get a manual transmission in a smaller, less powerful truck.

I love it. I'll be test driving both again this weekend and making my final decision.

Another thing I would like to get some input on is CRAWL Control. I realize if I go MT I will lose CT. Is it worth it to go AT just for the CT? It seems like an awesome feature. I am not at all a pro at the MT, I can drive it and I have my CDL and can drive big rigs, but I'm not a pro on how to use it for off roading. I mean I'll obviously get use to it, but am I giving up a great feature going MT?

I think the only other thing you lose is button start, right?

You lose push button start and keyless entry at the door (you still have a remote, but have to use it to unlock doors, rather than placing your hand on the handle). I might be in the minority here, but I prefer my keys to be in the ignition while driving. Every time I drive my wife's car, which is push button, the keys fall out of my pocket and down into the console crack. If I take them out of my pocket, I throw them in the cupholder where they just jingle around. So call me old fashioned but I like them in the ignition.

I think the biggest thing for me is the keyless entry, I love that and losing it would suck. And crawl control... such a tough choice, I'll have to drive them both once and then just make a choice

After watching Jalopnik, TFL Truck, The Driver's Seat, etc etc, most love Crawl Control and state that a human can't do what it does. Yes but then they test it, get stuck, end up disabling it and doing it themselves. Go figure. The demonstrations in deep sand and mud however are pretty darn impressive so it's def not a gimmic. For me, ATRAC and my right foot is good enough :)
