So was the 16 game win streak by Columbus just a fluke? They've kinda just been barely treading water ever since it ended..

 

I said when it was happening that they were overachieving. Good team but probably the 3rd or 4th best team in the division, honestly. Still better than all of the Atlantic teams though.

 

Going to the game tonight @OZ-T Pens better roll. FYI, for most of Ryan Miller's career, I try to go to games when he is in town (regardless of who he played for). He never plays in Pittsburgh, very annoying lol. But supposedly he is playing tonight, so that will be awesome. 2 of my favorite tenders going head to head.

 

Montreal just fired their coach and swapped in Julien.. deja vu.

Over performing in my opinion.

Leading the Atlantic, and they dump their coach. I don't get it. They're almost guaranteed to go on a slide now. WTF was Boston thinking as well? What are they going to gain? He's one of the best coaches in my opinion.

Pretty entertaining game , Mlller made some pretty big stops to keep it close . Canucks were pretty banged up losing Horvat and Sutter after last game and having to play call ups and a D man as a forward , impressive possesion by the Pens in the 2nd

 

I still thought Miller had a great game. Both teams for sure are banged up. Van not having Sutter hurts, down the middle, where Pens are strong. I think Geno coming back was a big boost, for us. Plus, Big Murr was a beast in net. Fun game to go to.

 

I think a lot of it was just the fact that Mon had a chance to get Julien. I don't think Therrien was doing badly, as a coach, but due to Canadian media, he was on and off of the hotseat for the past year. Unfortunately, they are about where they should be. Not quite enough fire-power and an over-rated goaltender. But for some reason, 1st in the Atlantic isn't good enough for those fans / media. Getting Julien isn't a bad move or anything, but they aren't going anywhere in the playoffs. If they win their division, they will probably lose to the 4th place Metro team, who finishes in the WC spot.

 

FIFY. If you think the English media in Canada is bad try the French. It's win a cup or get torn apart in the French media for the Habs.

 

Ya I'm sure. But at some point, reality > whatever the expectations are.

I also saw that you changed the Price quote. He's absolutely above average and 1 of the best. But he's still overrated. He is not a 'head and shoulders above others' talent, IMO....as much as everyone wants him to be.

 

Hmmm I'd disagree. Right now if I had to pick a goalie in the NHL to start a team with it would be Price. His track record is there and he's been clutch on a mediocre team for a long time. This slump is likely just a blip and people are making a mountain out of a mole hill. I hope Montreal trades Price at some point to a more complete team. It would be like what happened when Roy went to the avalanche.

 

It should also be mentioned that Habs fans expect a French coach behind the bench. I remember last time they made a change at head coach and they tried an English interim coach before hiring Therrien. He ended up getting blasted in the media for the language of the team way more than what he did as a coach, even though most of his team of course speaks only English. When the opportunity came up for Montreal to swap to another good Francophone coach I'm sure that factored heavily into how things went down yesterday.
