Hell yeah! I convinced them to cover it 100% under factory powertrain warranty!

This is after they had to cover $3,000 knock sensor harness replacement a week ago. My service advisor is pretty fucking awesome

Man toyota parts are valved at the price of gold. Nice glad you are getting it fixed. My knock sensor is just a 50 dollar GM part, lol.

Yeah, the sensor itself is like $35 and the harness is usually around $200, but the fucking thing is shoved so deep, they had to remove the intake manifold just to get to it! Replacing that thing is $2700 in labor!

I googled around before bringing it in and in 99% cases its caused by rats eating the wires. It actually ended up being the harness. One wire looked like it was cut with a razor blade. They did not find any usual rodent damage and no rat droppings, so they could not point at something and say "look! rats! you have to pay!", so they had to cover under warranty

I'm working the wrong job. I can pull at intake manifold in an hour or 2. These techs have their doctorates in engineering?

Considering the fact that they can't even recognize an OEM Toyota u-joint when they see one, I believe they are rocket biologists or something. Definitely not the sharpest bulbs in a crayon box.

It's probably the service writer trying to squeeze the most out of labor rate and hours needed for the job. Crazy if they were able to bill toyota that much.

Is there a performance shop that has AN fittings and ss braided oil lines? Got a leaky oil drain line.

The seal goes flush with the diff housing, the new ECGS bushing goes flush to the inner housing lip, hope that helps.

I worked at Toyota for quite a while and its almost a matter of who you talk to, if you have a good service writer your golden!!
I just did a Knock sensor harness a week or so ago, what a pain in the ass!!

The next one I get Ill have you come do it, lol. Its not the manifold removal thats difficult, its the fact that the water piping is on top of the sensors and harness and to get those pipes out technically you need to pull a fking cylinder head. I am able to do it without doing that but its all by brail using the ends of screwdrivers, lol.

Summit Racing.com or you can try Crown Performance in Vista.

The more (hours and parts) they sell the more they make so yep! Warranty work pays less labor hours than the same job not covered by warranty. Kinda messed up for the tech who actually has to do it though. The service writers are the ones making the cash..

That sounds rough. Lol nevermind. I'll stick with my easy to work on 4 cylinder.
I usually go through summitracing, but was hoping to drive the truck Thursday. Turns out pepboys has the fittings and ORW stocks the steel braided line when I called around today. Anything turbo related seems like you need to buy parts online.

Seemed weird that the rate was so high for that work. Doubt that was what they were able to charge Toyota. Sales is where it is at when it comes to making big money. Just feels a little dirty to me on some of the guys out there.

Yeah, ended up being $0 out of pocket for me, did not even have to pay for rental because it was all warranty work. I felt so relived not having to drop a grand on this shit, I picked up a Ballast Point gift card for the service advisor. The dude takes care of me every time I go there. Literally the best SA i've ever had. Loves my truck too. And he is a wheeler to boot (Jeep dude though)

Completely slipped my mind to thank the mechanic. He spent mad hours troubleshooting this shit. But i'm taking the truck back for 50K service in a few weeks, perhaps I should get him a gift card too. Im a believer in "you scratch my back, I scratch yours", so he would take good care of my truck in the future.

Yeah if you can wait online is always cheaper..but its not always convenient. And I agree, the good Service Writers were making well over 100k per year, its VERY rare that techs made this unless they are really fast and have a good service writer feeding them, and this was 20 years ago when I was working there.

The Service writer probably has 5+ techs under his accounts if its a busy dealership, get more than one gift card, haha!

Did you put in an ECGS bushing?

If you keep the truck's frame on jackstands high enough you could probably get away with 40" tires :hattip:

Thats a bummer. How is the sealing lip on your axle?
