everytime i surf down in SD near san elijo, pipes, etc. i see a decent amount of guys on those wakeboard tomos. and they all RIP on them. they look fun. don't see many guys on them around here in LA though. just one guy who tears apart 1st peak malibu on one of them. he catches the sets and goes nuts on them.

They are really fun boards. They plane well at lower speeds and can turn on a dime with less swing weight than a regular pointed nosed shortboard. They're not for everyone, but I like them a lot. Takes a little bit of time to get used to the feeling.

6'5 and 170 on a good day. Shortest board I got is a 5'10 and that fucker is so squirrely underneath me, I still haven't gotten it down. I also haven't surfed in 6 months :pout:

the size of your board and the size of you has nothing to do with anything. not sure why surfers think its cool or cooler to ride a smaller board. Ride what fits your style of surfing, your body size, your ability, etc. my buddy who shapes all my boards, him and i always talk about this. so many surfers think they need to ride what the pros ride or ride a big name shapers boards. ride what gives you the most pleasure when you're on a wave.

and to be a good surfer or have a lot of fun, you don't have to be doing huge hacks or airs. do whatever makes you happy on a wave.

    That's not true.

Shorter board = more responsiveness/sharper turns/etc. You can't drive a Tacoma the way you can drive a Ferrari

True. Also refer to above comment. I buy the boards based on what I like and cheapest. Only way you'll ever see me buying a CI is if it's $200

    100% true.

Very true. I find myself riding larger volume boards the older I get even while weighing less. And it has absolutely nothing to do with not being able to rip shorter boards anymore.

CI is expensive and thin glassing but damn do they respond well and carry speed so well. Some of the best boards I have owned besides Kazuma which is shaped locally on Maui.

what i meant by the size of your board and size of you have nothing to do with anything was your ability to surf well. obviously they mean something. But too many surfers think that if they ride a bigger board, it isn't "cool" or that they won't be able to "rip". which isn't true. the point was, surfers need to stop comparing and ride what works for them. and a shorter board doesn't make for sharper turns, and more responsive. it just makes for a shorter board. a well shaped board makes it more responsive. yes, obviously a 6'0" will turn better than a 9'0" longboard. but just because a board is 5'4" doesn't make it more responsive and turn better than a 6'0". and then you add the guy surfing it, which throws a ton more into the ability to turn it better, etc.

in the end, again, point trying to make is, surf what works for you. not what is the "hot new thing". like carbon tail pads. what a joke those were. now you are seeing everything being made with carbon stringers, and epoxy boards. all these guys thinking it will make them the next Kelly Slater or Felipe Toledo. nope.

I agree. I think people who can rip on longboards are way cooler than shortboards on occasion. Nose riding for 100 yards? That shit's bonkers, in addition to all else they can do.

But yes, your equipment doesn't make you any better at surfing.

Never surfed one so I can't compare. I've always wanted a dumpster diver or a neck beard from them but I'm not dropping $600+ on a board. All my boards (except my Infiniti) were less than $300

I wasn't referring to the paddle boards. I was referring to the "board talk". Who cares, ride whatever makes you happy. It's all about having fun.
