Has anyone seen or heard about the performance of the Toyota Tacoma special DVD TV GPS radio bluetooth system device CAV-8062TM? It is made by SUAV Industrial Co., Limited. It is made specifically for Tacomas and is relatively cheap ($528).

thanks for the honest opinion benca1. The reason I ask is that my head is spinning with all the options for a system in a 07 DC. I want to get a nice touch screen, door speakers, nice subs and amps but I just don't know the right way to go. I want quality and clean sound that can get pretty loud....any tips would be great. and you're right.....the stock unit is a joke....I can't go over 45 without laughing!

 

I'd advise you to stay away from these types of unit. I researched them for my wife's Santa Fe. A lot of folks on that forum have had small buggy issues, weird logic, and installation issues (not as plug and play as they claim).

Buy a quality unit for a couple hundred bucks more. Eclipse AVN units will plug directly into your harness.

 

Buy a DNX 9140 and you get more options.

 

OMG NO!!! The DNX 9140 is JUNK... there are too many problems with this unit to be worth your $$.

I had this unit and just returned it (thank god I bought it from an authorized dealer) because the problems with it weren't being fixed. There is a major issue when using this unit with your iPod... every time you change tracks the album art needs to refresh which renders the unit inoperable during the refresh period (~5 sec), which Kenwood says "works as intended". This "intended" feature made me want to put my head through the windshield every time I listened to music on my iPod. A number of people have also had problems with the unit randomly rebooting itself.

My wife has the dnx8120 and has never had a problem. For the kind of money you spend on these things Kenwood should be more inclined to admit there is an issue and then actually fix it.

Yes! you right.....is freeze when loading album art , but .......i coming from JVC AVX810 and you need about 20 to 30 seconds to ipod search....so , i think it improves. I hope someday kenwood release firmware update.

 

Your better off getting one of the cheaper WinCE based chinese nav systems. Its basicly the same thing, and if you look you can find them for about $300. They are a bit questionable on the nav software they use. Alot of the time its pirated TomTom or navigon WinCE hacked to work, though it works well and can be updated. Do a search over at GPS Underground of you want to see more on them.

 

Pioneer Avic series are also pretty good
