Any regrets with your model selection?

You must be in the same age group as myself. Those were the cars to have when I used to mod those things and do the harnesses for the ZC swaps in the late 90's.
Worked at one of the first shops in Cali to do the wiring harnesses before the internet came around showing folks how to do it.

I have a 16 DCLB sport, not by choice, was the only truck on the lot at the time, they were moving out fast, this one was actually already sold to another person at another dealer. But they were willing to sell it to me. I wanted a different color than the Sky silver, only because my 1st gen that I had for 15 years was Lunar Mist aka silver, but the dealer told me to just look at it, see what you think, I was sold and no regrats at all, love the fake hood scoop, sun roof, etc.... I eventually plan to add all the OR stuff to it, I have taken my sport on stock tires to many places, and it held up just fine, I always say, "once I get the suspension and wheels and tires changed, I can go anywhere" lol......

 

Got a 2WD 2017 Access Cab... want a 4WD DCLB at this point. Doesn't have to be a 3rd gen.

Found a perfect 2014 with 35k miles but it's list price is quite high. I know I'm gonna have to eat a few thousand in a trade but with the current state of my finance I'm sure I'll be eating 6-8k or so. Better just ride this truck out for a year or two.

YES!!!!!!!! I wish I never walked into a Toyota dealer. Wish i got to test drive the tacoma down the highway.

 

That sounds like a financial disaster waiting to happen. Whats wrong with your current truck? Do you legitimately NEED the 4x4? If so why didn't you get it originally?

Edit: I see you also want to switch from Access cab to Double cab. Looks like you didn't think this one through at all. Sorry man, that sucks

 

Not at all.
I waited until 2017 because the DCSB OR wasn't offered in Canada for 2016. I almost bought a sport instead. Waited and am happy I did.

 

Were you not allowed to test drive it?

 

Go with your gut. I decided on the Sport - no regrets.

 

'16 DCOR, no regrets other than missing my standard shift. But those are hard to get anymore.

 

No regrets. I wanted a Double cab and a manual transmission. Easy decision in Canada, it's only available as a Sport so all I had to do was pick a colour and wait. I didn't think I'd like the short box, but it grew on me and both my bikes still fit.

 

Nothing is wrong with it really, I just now wish I had the options of 4WD and 4-doors. But they're not things I'd use daily by any means, which was why I didn't get it originally...

All I thought at the dealer was how much of an upgrade this was from my old total base-model 2WD 1994 Toyota Pickup. I never wished I had 4WD or 4 doors in that thing, but now that I just barely missed the opportunity to have those things, I'm a little sad. I don't see the point in these access doors to be honest.

But the truck is still great and suits my intents and purposes for the majority of my driving so life's good.

 

DCSB TRD Sport. I looked at the OR, but I knew I'd likely never need that much off road capability.
DC was a must have for the family. I MAY regret the short bed at some point, but so far it hasn't been an issue.
I've never even had a 4x4 before, so I'm really happy with it.

 

I had that same truck 1994 base model 2WD. Drove it 16 years and 270k. Finally had transmission issues and I got rid of it.

Current truck is night and day better comfort wise, no regrets there.

 

Now that sounds like it would have been a great choice. I miss the manual transmission of my eclipse.

 

Transmission issues (manual) are what finally pushed me to get the Tacoma. Only has 200k miles, still going to try fixing it before I sell it... replaced the master and slave cylinders hoping that would've fixed the problem but it didn't. Next attempt will be with a $100 clutch kit... hoping it's just bad bearings and/or flywheel or something.

Nice little truck but I'm so happy to have normal luxuries like... intermittent windshield wipers, heh.

 

I was buying used. I decided what I wanted and finally found it at a dealer in the next county (sales tax is lower there, saved $250). I kinda wanted an access cab but I found this first and it was a good deal, started out at $19,000 and I got it for $14000 something. I have a canopy so not having an access cab isn't that big a deal. I've only had 3 people in it once when I rescued some idiots who'd run out of gas in the mountains. Regular cabs are a bit shorter so easier to turn around when I drive up a road and can't continue. No center bearing on the driveshaft either so at least 2 fewer parts to mess with.

My brother asked if I was going to get a manual transmission, I assured him he didn't need to worry. I think he might have disowned me if I'd gotten an automatic.

I live on an auto row, I went to used car dealers and told them what I wanted, only one ever called back. He said "have you considered a Nissan?"
me "do you have one?" dealer "no"

 

YES BUT only around the block. Highway was 5-6 miles away.
