Maybe do it on a computer and send a picture to Toyota. If they are producing crap, they need to know we won't accept it. Period!
Toyota trucks historically have not had problems. This is a new trend and what burns my ass the most is that a lot of people just accept it. Say no to junk!

The 5 speed AT in my 2013 works great! They used it in Tacoma, 4RUNNER, land cruiser and tundra.

Not sure what you're reading but the people that are not happy on this thread want a truck motor with balls which would fix a lot of the shiftiness of the transmission. The current gen 3 motor is more suited to a Supra.

Do you even own the truck you purport to know so much about? It was difficult to tell from your signature but I though it said 2013 Limited.

I still don't understand all of this complaining, and it is one thing that has kept me from getting more engaged on this site despite the value and community I have found here.

Half of these damn problems are imagined issues that exist due to the echo chamber formed here and the paranoia that develops.

For those that have real issues, you have my sympathy, but if I were in a similar situation I would find more tangible solutions than bitching on a forum and hoping Toyota gives a shit (they don't).

The solution here is simple. Test drive, test drive, test drive.

Don't like your truck after buying it? Strange, if you test drove it, but hell we all make mistakes and the truck for whatever reason is not the right fit for you. That's ok. Sell it and move on.

I certainly will not be sad to see you go.

In the meantime I am going to use that pedal on the right and go out and enjoy my truck.

    Because it's awesome.

"If you are boosting about 0 to 60 mph times and 1/4 mile times... you bought your truck for different reasons than me. I took the truck out for a 3 hr tour and in the end felt that Toyota really screwed it up. My wife's 2016 Sienna with the 2GR-FE has way better bottom end torque than the new Tacoma. On top of that I felt the transmission was very... I have no words. It's like it's their first automatic transmission. Maybe it was just the one I test drove but it was a deal breakerfor me. Too bad, I like everything else."

I have been driving Toyota trucks for 25 years and was looking forward to owning this new one as well. I am upset with Toyota for raping and casterating my truck!
I'm glad you're happy thou... good for you!

I've spent time driving all the mid-size trucks (Tacoma,Canyon,Frontier,New Ridgeline) The engine/transmission in the 3rd gen Tacoma is the worst of the bunch. The Canyon has shift problems, but has lots of power. The Frontier is old school 5sp but shifts fine and has lots of power. The Ridgeline is the best shifting and driving truck of all of them and it gets the best gas mileage.

All these people that say their truck drives and shifts just fine either don't know what good shifting is or they don't want to admit they paid a lot of money for a truck that has problems.

Go drive a Ridgeline and you will immediately see how a truck should shift and drive.

I really wanted to buy a new Tacoma, but there is no way I could live with the way it drives.

^^^^Well then what the hell are you doing in a Tacoma forum?!?!?! So I got the TSB done yesterday and I did not feel the surge this morning. What I did notice last night driving on the freeway at 70 is the truck kept wanting to downshift and it was kind of annoying I kind of had to play with the throttle. I'm starting to regret not getting a manual but the manual does not fit my needs with all my city driving. I still love the truck just a few things I wish were different. And for the poster above I saw a Ridgeline yesterday and it reminded me of an Isuzu Pup LOLOLOLOLOL what a turd!

imjdoggie maybe you should look at my profile before asking dumb questions. You may not like the way the Ridgeline looks, but it sure drives circles around the new Taco!

This is a forum for owners and enthusiasts, so passions do run high sometimes. If you never owned a Tacoma before, you might not understand all the negative comments- I don't, but my needs and expectations are pretty simple- get in and drive to where I need to go, drive home. As long as the truck is doing this, I am satisfied.
Erratic shifting, howling, shakes, rattles, stutters- never had these problems.
I have driven pickup trucks for the past 30 years, and this 3rd gen is the nicest by far vehicle I have ever owned.
Most things in life are a crap shoot- you hope for the best, plan for the worst, and hopefully you come out on top most of the time.
I do laugh when members who do not even own a 3rd gen post what a POS it is, because of a "test drive" or what they have read....but everyone is entitled........lol

I just don't understand how someone could have the time, energy or motivation to post on a forum for a vehicle they don't even own.

We get it. You don't like the new Tacoma. There are lots of other vehicles out there. Go get one. Maybe the Ridgeline, I am sure it just fine.

stick around- I don't understand it either, but this is a really great forum with many excellent members- once you learn to navigate around. And I believe that the shit will shake out eventually- only time will tell.

This is a bit off topic, but Pickuptrucks.com just posted "spy shots" of the 2019 Ranger.

    http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2017/02/spied-2019-ford-ranger-crew-cab.html

""Expect a full complement of EcoBoost four- and six-cylinder engines and perhaps a diesel a year or two after introduction. Ford may also use the direct-injected twin-turbo EcoBoost V-6 as the premium choice. Ford's new 10-speed automatic transmission, co-developed with GM, is also expected to make it into the top trim package."

If this is the case, Toyota is going to have some very stiff competition.

In other news, Toyota announced the 2019 Tacoma will come with a new grill......wait, that was the 2018 Tundra.

Seriously though, I'll bet anyone $1,000 the 2019 Tacoma will be exactly the same aside from a new grill.

I saw those spy shots of the new ford ranger. I had heard they were going to start from scratch and redesign... I heard that on this forum actually. My take away from what I've read is that ford isn't going to redesign, maybe some minor changes in the body. That said, it's going to look like a ridgline with shit stuck to it. The next 10 years Tacoma is going to be the only pick up worth a damn. Also, my 2.7 manual is fuckin killing it. I feel bad for anyone in a disappointing config, power feels great, gear ratio is nice. Yesterday after leaving my dealership with a free early oil change (7k early), 80+ mph uphill 5th and still room to go.
