It's a proven bulletproof drive train. Why mess with it? To squeeze out a couple mpg's?
No thanks. Look what happened when toyota went from the proven 4.0 to the new 3.5 .... not many good reviews and many wishing they just stayed with the old engine.

Yes, they offer the Hilux in a diesel variant in non-U.S. markets. They already know the technology. I don't believe a hybrid Tundra will bode well. Americans buying trucks (and large SUVs like the Sequoia) aren't concerned with getting great gas mileage. It ultimately comes down to HP and torque.

Hybrid SUV will be big hit by Toyota in full size

Just like hybrid minivan will be for Chrysler

95% of full size Toyota SUV owners are mall crawlers and school moms

I suppose that's possible. Are there any preliminary numbers out there comparing the performance and durability of a hybrid v8 to a turbo diesel v8?

We put 133k miles on our Ls600hL which was a hybrid v8 with 0 issues

Our 5.7L in our land cruiser and LX had more issues than our LS

No experience in turbo diesel v8 in the USA but some friends in Aus swear by them

Couldn't find anything just now through a google search. Looking forward to hearing more about this in the future.

Took Forever ten years to revamp the Expedition.
They're also talking about Hybrid Mustangs and F150s now.
I know Toyota fits in a certain segment where people are Toyota First type buyers but if you're not wowing new buyers, what happens in the long run?
I loved my 08 Expedition and am eager to see the new one and also am eager for the new Ranger.
