Not sure if you are serious... Anyways I will rephrase my comment since it clearly upset you and you personalized it so I will say the best way to buy an extended warranty is to not buy one.

Also, and I hope you are not a finance guy, I strongly feel that the salesmen are sketchy greedy vultures generally speaking and the finance guys make them look like f'n saints. When I go to a stealership to buy a car I make a point to check out the finance guys before I do anything. If they look like punk kids who would rather be at the club the deal is over before it started. I fucking hate the finance guys. I would never let a finance guy sell me anything, not a warranty, not paint protection, not undercoating, not gap insurance, not fucking ANYTHING.

I got a "free lifetime warranty and oil changes" in Daytona beach (Toyota).... Free is never free and warranty is subjective. If they all run to 400k why buy anything nor argue when the "free" warranty won't cover "it"..... LOL

The finance guys are the worst! The lady I had for my Tacoma would not take no. I had to get mean and start explaining why what she was offering was a bad deal because she was acting like she simply couldn't understand.

I emailed that guy Toby before I bought my 2015 for his prices and it was $1100 for 8 years, I took that with me and used that as a bargaining chip when I was in with the finance lady.

Hi I wanted to join this thread on behalf of my son who just purchased a new '16 Tacoma.

We also have a Camry which has been great in all aspects.

    Hello all.

Without going over too many details he ended up buying the 4yr/100000Mile Plat. (0 Deduct) Plan for $1500.

I have similar concerns that he paid too much, I looked over the contract and it appears he can cancel it without much problem and the amount just gets refunded to his loan amount. It would be prorated but looks like he get most of it back.

So, would he then be able to purchase the plan again once he canceled it?, (assuming a cheaper cost for the same plan).

I suppose I could call a few dealers here in Maryland and get some prices for the plan.

    Thanks for any advice.

I am a little confused when you say son bought 4yr/1000000 mile Plat. To my knowledge Tacoma should come with 36 month/36000 mile warranty. Did you mean 7 year/100000 miles and he is actually adding/buying the additional 4 years as the first 3 years are included? If he bought a 4 year Plan he is only buying 1 year. Do you know if he purchased aToyota VSC ( vehicle service contract ) or was it aftermarket?

I felt totally swindled by the extra warranty BS. I got a 7yr/100k plan when I got my truck and it cost me $1500. I didn't know what to expect buying my first vehicle and the guy really pressured me into it before I was able to sign and get my keys.

In the time i have owned the truck I tried to go for the rear spring TSB and had to battle to get it fixed under warranty because I was just outside of the basic 3yr/36k warranty. They said the extra protection I paid for didn't cover this.

1 year after my extended plan expired I went in for a transfer case 4wd actuator that came out to $2500 that was out of my pocket.

If you do your research on most manufacturer warranties 70% goes to the seller, and 30% goes to the insurance company that backs the plan. That's why there are such varying degrees of rates on these plans. Which dealer is wiling to give up some profit to sell more warranties?

Waste of money. Wish I put that $1500 into savings.

    Yes the VSA....thanks,

The plan is 48 months and 100K...so I'd say he's paying for the warranty piece for the mileage above the 36K Factory Supplied, because he does a lot of driving so the length of time is not so much a big as the 100K piece, he'll reach 36 in say a year and 1/2 easy.

Doesn't sound like he got much of a deal, so I'm wondering if he can obtain a better price after he cancels it, and if Toyota allows you to drop a warranty and then be sold a warranty a 2nd time?

Yeah, draw from a $2k savings account when/if your transmission or other drivetrain part fails in 25 months. You'll deplete that account and add quite a bit more. I know it's insurance, but that's why we have it. Otherwise, nobody would have insurance and we'd all be broke.

Everyone is against extended warranties until they actually need it.

I bought 7yr 100K platinum with the ability to be refunded in full if I dont use the warranty for $1100. I looked at it as a free option. If I use it fine, if I dont the true cost is only a few hundred( if I had put it into the market I would have received a return) in opportunity cost. So a few hundred for an additional 4 years of bumper to bumper, kinda of a no brainer.

I know plenty of stories where extended warranties have saved owners significant money, and I know plenty where they are never used.

    They are a terrible idea.

After spending $1605 on my 7/125, I have now received over $3300 in repair and parts with no questions asked.

I am not current on recent rules regarding buying/cancelling of warranties but I recommend you call Toyota Financial Services with your questions. I called them when I was in the market and had similar questions and they answered all my concerns. Before you contact TFS you should read this thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/toyota-platinum-extended-warranty.472961/. I'm guessing this is not a Toyota VSC because it's only for 4 years but that should be easy to find out. If I remember correctly you used to have 60 days to cancel. Again, contact TFS.

I saved $1600 a few months ago. I did it by NOT buying an extended 100K dealer warranty on my Tacoma when it was new. I cracked 100K with no repairs needed.

What I did do was attempt to make a deal with the dealer. I suggested giving them the money up front and if I never used the warranty, they would give me back half of the cost at 100K. This way, they could use the money as they saw fit right now. If I needed it just once, for anything, they get the whole enchalata with no payback to me. They didn't go for it, so I simply held off and happened to win that game.

I also bought a VSA thru Toyota Financial Services for my 12 Tacoma. Noticed the stock radio is starting to cut-out occasionally in one channel (front speaker). It's a pricey part.
