Anything with front wheel drive is not a truck. The owners are all mouth breathers anyways.

I don't put much faith in popular consumer magazines. I am the consumer and I like mine. I guess if you talked to the ones who gripe about their truck then you get a bad consumer report and if you talk to people who like theirs a good consumer report. Sounds like the magazine wanted to go with the gripers.

It is due to automatic transmission issues. Have you gone to the dealer with yours?

i get that this is a tacoma site and all, but some of you take the fanboy behavior straight into mental illness territory. Of course chevy/ford/honda can build reliable vehicles that last for 100k + miles with no issues. You know how I know? I've had them. Also have a rav4 that i am very happy with.

The tacoma, well hands down (its not even close folks) has been in more for service for its age and mileage and still has unresolved issues in my opinion. And based on other people's issues i read about here, i am not real optimistic about the long term reliability. It doesn't seem like a stretch of the imagination to me to have to drop a few thousand after the warranty expires for the trans, rear diff, or even engine issues. But none of us really know the answer to that yet.

Sell it. I hate to see you get stuck with those thousands of dollars for repair bills.

I think Consumer Reports counts any service that is not regular maintenance. So any trans re flash, trans fluid level check, radio update or anything not general maintenance that the owner takes it to the dealership for. Doesn't mean the truck is a turd. I like my truck but traveling 3 hours round trip to the dealer for issues is a pain. Distance to dealer is the reason I put the ECGS bushing in myself rather than multiple trips to the dealer trying to get the needle bearing replace.

    No more Turd-gen :)
God can you imagine the weird and frequency of issues once these things start getting some age on them?! They cant get them right when they are new...cant wait to see what people pushing 100K plus are dealing with. That's assuming anyone has the determination to drive one that long #Turdgen

I plan on keeping mine for a good while. Only thing that really worries me now is whether or not I'll have a CPS failure. Short of that I haven't seen or experienced anything that makes me worry about actually breaking down.

For reliability scoring CR only counts what it's subscribers tell them on surveys.

They conduct surveys with questions about different systems and some those system surveyed are broken into minor & major events. Those are then followed up with further questions should an issue be reported.

Is there room for error? Sure. It also appears accurate in that it seems to reflect what you see in real life. It's not a hate on Toyota thing because as a manufacture they score really well at least in the reliability scores and other which score well in road test (VW or Audi for example) don't get recommended because of reliability.

I second this. I've read CR for a while and have noticed that updated vehicles are predicted to have lower reliability in the beginning. I think it might just be them covering their ass since there aren't any Tacos with enough miles to really base a reliability rating on. Hey, I might be wrong, but my .02

This thread is basically for people who spend $30k-$40k on a truck without research or test driving, or even poor driving habbits, then complain when something doesn't go as they expect it to go. My truck has absolutely zero issues and runs as I expect it. This is coming from no fanboy either. This is my first Tacoma, coming from an F-150, Corolla, G35 and Mustang.

I don't doubt that there are lemons or versions of them out there, but since being a member here, I feel like they all somehow end up here to bicker and complain to make others who are happy with their vehicle think otherwise.

It really boils down to if you hate it get rid of it, it may not be for you. If you can't get out of it, then that's a personal problem you should have thought about before making such an expense.

    The fanboy train is real.

"All new Tacoma, omfg look it has a sunroof and new buttons"

    Same shit frame
    Same shit leaf pack
Same shit vibrations they've had for over 10 years. Nothing changed.
